Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children (LuskinOIC) has treated over two million children in conjunction with advancing the forefront of musculoskeletal medicine worldwide through research and education. This commitment to service continues unabated today, as OIC continues to develop innovative and effective ways to bring expert and compassionate medical care to children and adults with disabling musculoskeletal injuries and disorders.

For a child, play is not optional. It is how they grow, explore, and build confidence.

When a baby is born with clubfoot, simple milestones like standing, walking, and running can feel uncertain for families. Without proper treatment, clubfoot can affect balance, mobility, and the ability to participate fully in everyday activities and sports.

At LuskinOIC, our team focuses exclusively on children. That means every treatment plan is designed around growing bones, developing muscles, and long-term function. Our goal is not just correction. It is helping kids move comfortably, confidently, and freely.

Every child deserves the chance to run, jump, and play without limitation. We are here to help make that possible.

Access to care does not stop at our walls and it does not stop at our borders.

Through international partnerships, on-the-ground collaboration, and ongoing knowledge sharing, our team has a presence beyond Los Angeles, working alongside providers in other countries to expand access to specialized pediatric orthopedic care. We believe expertise should travel, training should be shared, and innovation should benefit children everywhere.

This is how access is built. Through partnership, education, and a shared commitment to helping every child move, grow, and thrive no matter where they live.

When we collaborate globally, we create impact that lasts far beyond a single clinic or city. That is how sustainable access to care is created. Together.

Last year, LuskinOIC helped bring California’s first gene therapy infusion for Hemophilia B to the state, marking a major milestone in treatment for this rare bleeding disorder. This innovative therapy allows the body to produce the clotting factor it was previously missing, significantly reducing bleeding episodes and improving quality of life for patients.

The procedure reflects our commitment to cutting-edge pediatric care, combining clinical expertise, research participation, and multidisciplinary support to deliver life-changing treatments to children and families in our community.

We’re proud to share that Esther Chung, Research Coordinator at LuskinOIC, recently represented our institute at the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine (PRiSM) Conference. There, she presented both a poster and an oral presentation highlighting important research on ACL reconstruction outcomes in young patients.

Her work explored how certain surgical techniques may impact knee stiffness and how specific nerve blocks may help reduce post-operative pain and narcotic use in pediatric patients. These findings contribute to safer, more effective care for young athletes recovering from ACL surgery.

Esther represented the collaborative research efforts of Dr. Baghdadi, Dr. Bowen, Dr. Newman-Hung, Dr. Hamad, Kole Joachim, and Gabrielle Noullet with pride.

At LuskinOIC, we remain committed to advancing evidence-based care and improving outcomes for children everywhere.

Calling All Future Engineers & Healthcare Innovators!

LuskinOIC is hosting a FREE X-BOTS Robotics Mobility Program Workshop for students ages 13–18! Participants will build and assemble Xbots while discovering how robotics and engineering connect directly to real careers in healthcare.

For students, it’s a hands-on chance to create, problem-solve, and explore STEM in action.

For parents, it’s an opportunity to encourage your teen to step outside the classroom, build real-world skills, and gain exposure to meaningful career pathways in engineering and healthcare. Experiences like this can ignite confidence, curiosity, and direction.

• Limping or favoring one leg
• Ongoing hip or groin pain
• Stiffness or limited range of motion
• Difficulty walking, running, or keeping up during play
• Changes in posture or gait
• Knee or thigh pain that may be linked to a hip condition

Do you know what type of wrist injuries are common in kids and teens? Wrist injuries often happen from falls, sports, or repetitive use. Here are the ones pediatric specialists see most often:

• Growth plate injuries that affect developing bones
• Fractures that cause pain, swelling, or deformity
• Sprains and strains from falls or impact
• Gymnast wrist, a stress injury from repetitive weight-bearing on the hands

Knowing the injury is only part of the picture. Learning how to prevent them is just as important. Visit our blog to learn practical tips that help protect growing wrists, reduce injury risk, and keep kids active and safe: https://hubs.la/Q041sq4k0
