It was torture for me.
Maybe that seems dramatic to read, but you know I'm dramatic if you know me personally.
I signed up for my RN-BSN program in October 2019, almost six months before the pandemic started in the U.S. I was ready to get this BSN program over with, and like many of you out there, I was completely unaware of what we would go through in the coming months.
Once the pandemic hit and we went into lockdown, my anxiety took over. The worrying took over. I worried about getting exposed at work and bringing the virus home to my family, or worse, getting the virus and dying like the thousands of people who died from the virus.
The fear of leaving my family without a wife, a mother, or daughter affected my mental health and emotional well-being. Worrying about my parents and other family members had me on edge, and the constant bombardment of death tolls everywhere did not help. I had to take a step back and detach from all of that.
So yes, it was torture for me. Going to school in a pandemic, working in a pandemic, and raising my family in a pandemic was hard. But thankfully, like many humans, like many of you, I am resilient.
Thankfully, I have completed my BSN program and learned that it's okay to have all of the feelings I went through. Life has not been normal. Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter what they are.
Now I have to figure out what I'm going to do next... easy right? 👌🏼✅
