celebrating life and death

This shoot was birthed during a moment of crisis and grief. My grandfather passed this past Sunday and will sadly never get to see my son come earth side.

It was difficult to muster the energy to photograph what is supposed to be a happy moment for me and my partner but I’m so glad I did. I know my abuelito would have wanted us to celebrate our son in every way possible.

The one thing that keeps me grounded is the knowledge that my son will be full of grandfather fire’s energy, which is very appropriate for my soon to be Aries baby.

So thankful to my family and friends for hosting such an amazing baby shower to celebrate our growing family.

So happy to have gained such a wonderful extension to my family and grateful to them for making today so special. Can’t wait to celebrate again later this month with the rest of my family.

Happy Summer Solstice!!! Today is the longest day of the year and marks our journey towards winter. Many ancient traditions celebrated this day with dance, bonfires, and many happy celebrations. Even many native traditions marked the summer solstice as a change in the cosmos that was to be celebrated.

If you are looking to celebrate the summer solstice you can do so by baking cakes, making lemonade, lighting a yellow candle, making a bonfire, etc. There are many different ways to celebrate both big and small.

Today I’ll be spending it lighting a candle and baking lemon cookies.
