Walter Bowles, LCSW / Psychotherapy

Walter Bowles, LCSW / Psychotherapy Psychotherapy for creatives & lgbtq+ in California I offer individual and couples therapy to California residents.

I specialize in cultural relational therapy and work with adults and teens, specifically people in the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly those who are experiencing grief, depression, anxiety, struggling with substance or eating disorders, including chemsex, and using harm reduction techniques. I am sex positive and sex worker affirming, and enjoy helping clients with relational issues like sexual intimacy, connection, boundaries, celebrations, empowerment, and love. Working in the entertainment business for decades as a performer has given me a unique perception of the world and helped me to have valuable perspective in helping clients, particularly those in the industry. Developing new ways to cope and maintain thriving relationships can be challenging but ultimately is an opportunity to grow.

The holiday season can be exciting, communal, joyous, and exhausting & activating.

Patterns and unconstructive coping skills may re-emerge. Identify triggers and constructive coping mechanisms ahead of time so that when a situation arises or we notice that we are overwhelmed we will have a plan to soothe our nervous system and feel empowered to apply actions and create comfort.

Setting boundaries with ourselves and others can help encourage a sense of balance.

If there was conflict or loss in the past this may be more difficult time of the year. It can help to commemorate the person or situation and spend time remembering and expressing our feelings about this with loved ones which can bring healing.

It’s our holiday and although we may want it to be perfect and abundant; remember that obligations are only suggestions and we can choose to celebrate with our community as we see fit.

Maintaining our boundaries & self care activities can encourage a memorable and joyful season.

And if you don’t like the holiday season- that’s ok too ❄️

A complex combination of outside pressures and information overload is driving young people to snub alcohol, far more than generations before them.
