The reason Projo* exists is actually pretty simple.
Back in early 2019, I found out my (then) friend Lisa Hermosillo couldn’t drink coffee. She loved the idea of it, but every time she tried it the same thing happened. Jitters. Stomach pain. A crash shortly after.
Coffee has always been a huge part of my life and culture, so I wanted her to be able to enjoy it, not suffer from it.
At the time I had already spent years in the fitness and nutrition industry, so I started digging into the science.
What I found was fascinating. Protein and caffeine actually work really well together. Protein slows caffeine absorption and helps reduce the cortisol spikes responsible for jitters and anxiety. The energy becomes smoother and lasts longer.
So I went to the lab… aka my kitchen blender.
From day one the product had non-negotiables:
• Low sugar (because sugar + caffeine = crash)
• No whey (Lisa’s stomach couldn’t handle it)
• It had to taste like real coffee, not a protein shake pretending to be one
The first version of Projo* came in a glass jar with a one-week shelf life. It wasn’t pretty.
But something amazing happened. Lisa could finally drink coffee without jitters, stomach pain, or a crash. And it actually tasted great.
That was the moment I knew there was something real here.
Over the next 7 years everything evolved. We tested different proteins (even egg whites at one point) before landing on the system we use today: milk protein and certified grass-fed collagen. Packaging evolved from glass jars, to plastic bottles, to the shelf-stable aluminum cans we use now.
But the mission never changed.
