November is Men’s Health Month!
Guys, this one is for you!

While we may not talk about the male pelvic floor as often as we do the female, it is just as important for daily functions!

Pelvic Floor Dysfunction in men looks a little different, but it can also be very similar when we look at symptoms.
•urgency
•low back pain
•pelvic pain
•constipation
These are all reasons to think about the function of your pelvic floor and ask “Is it doing what I need it to!?”

Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy is beneficial for men’s health too! There is no reason to push through symptoms and be uncomfortable. We can help.
Intimacy- if ED or other complications are arising, pelvic floor therapy can be beneficial here too.
Reach out to us and let’s talk about your story!

November is Bladder Health Awareness month!
Here’s a few key points you want to know diving into the season!

🚽 The bladder is a muscle. Fully expanding and fully relaxing are both necessary! (I.e. stretching and emptying)
🚽Sitting on the toilet is essential! Do not squat or hover to avoid contact. (This is one of the reasons we see pelvic floor dysfunction)!
🚽 The bladder and pelvic floor muscles work together.
🚽 Just in case p*eing can contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction. YOU are the boss of your bladder!

Get to know your bladder health and get to know what you can do to help your body!
Reach out to us with questions, we’d love to help on your journey!

Here is an exact quote from one of our patients recently!
“I just learned that I need to actually sit on the toilet when I p*e. I have been squatting to p*e my whole life and I am 55!”
Sitting ON the toilet is actually so important for the full function of both your pelvic floor and your bladder!
1. Sitting allows the muscles of the pelvic floor to fully relax, contracted pelvic floor muscles make it hard to p*e or p**p!
2. Sitting also allows full emptying of the bladder! This works along with a relaxed pelvic floor.

If you’re still squatting (aka hovering) when using the toilet 🛑 now and call your pelvic floor therapist!

The Postpartum season…

This season is filled with so much and so many different circumstances. Everyone has their own unique story through pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond.
Today, let’s talk about tearing when giving birth. There’s a lot to be said about the incredible act of giving birth, the body is truly amazing- especially in its transformation of growing a human inside and bringing them into the world!
Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy during pregnancy can be beneficial and prevent tearing or limit the degree of it!
If you tear while giving birth here’s what you should know…

➡️If you tore, you are not alone. About 90% of people have an injury to their perineum from childbirth (aka they tore).
🫶🏻First, it is best to rest those first 2 weeks to allow the tissue and your body to heal. Rest in bed, not up on walks.
🫶🏻Second, using a sitz bath, peri bottle, or bidet helps it to heal rather than wiping because wiping can be so rough.
•If you have pain with in*******se after 6 weeks please seek a pelvic floor physical therapist. It could go away on its own, but it is more likely to go away with the help of manual therapy!

If you are pregnant, talk to your local Pelvic Floor Therapist about preparing your body for labor!

If you tore during delivery, ask for help with pain or concerns so that you can heal fully!

Peeing! Not exactly the conversation starter topic, but if you’re talking to your Pelvic Floor PT it’s likely to be a discussion!
Why do we sometimes spray p*e when voiding!?
Spraying p*e is often a sign of muscles being tight around the urethra! Much of the time this is just considered normal because it’s what your body has done!
It is however treatable with pelvic floor physical therapy.
If you are experiencing spraying and not a steady stream, reach out to us we’d be happy to help!
