Bottom Line: Check in with others and give the gift of you

Did you know that geese fly in formation for a purpose of aerodynamics and distribution of strength and energy? If one bird becomes isolated, they become quickly fatigued and easily attacked by predators. Stay together and you have safety and support with others. We have been created to be in relationship with each other and to be together. All of this isolation and social distancing has created a great deal of anxiety and fear for many of us and for many people in our neighborhoods. Jesus stated in I John 4:18 to fear not because his perfect love casts out fear. The relationship with Jesus has been a tremendous gift that we remember this Christmas season. The greatest gift you can give others this season is you. I am challenging my friends and family to check in with those who may be isolated physically or emotionally because of fear. Checking in can be done with a card, zoom, face time, phone or just doing something for them like shoveling snow, or providing some cookies.
This season you can be a tremendous gift to others by simply being you and checking in with those who may feel alone and fearful. Do not let them fly alone -remind them they matter. Remember Christ came to earth in love because you matter.

Are you exhausted from COVID? Does everyone around you feel differently about this? I have found that some people are still terrified to leave the house, some people think this is all a hoax and some people have felt almost no effect of Covid-19 in their daily life. We cannot change anyone's mind and need to give Grace to those around us that feel differently about all of this. We all have a different comfort level and we need to have the freedom to make our own personal choices based on our comfort level. I am much more concerned about the mental health of our community than the virus itself. We are dealing with depression, anxiety and su***de. Take care of yourself! Be careful how much information you consume! We are here to help if you just need to talk to someone!!

Mid-week 3 of Covid-19 restrictions and you may have experienced an emotional roller coaster with so much time at home, financial concerns, boredom, asking if we hit the peak yet or is there more to come, and wondering if you can do another week at home. The book of James (1:3) tells us to consider it a joy when trials come our way because it will develop our endurance/perseverance. Endurance leads to being complete and lacking nothing. In the Greek, the word endurance means a steadfastness and consistency. In other words, the person is not swayed from their deliberate purpose and loyalty to faith even in the greatest of trails and suffering. Colossians 1:11 is Paul’s prayer, that the people would have great endurance and patience. As this time of being quarantine continues, I encourage you to endure, not focusing on what you cannot do but more on what will your response be to trails we are in. Endurance in psychology is what we call being intentional – done with a purpose or deliberate. So as things in the world seem out of control at this time, the one thing we do control is how we as individuals will respond. This week I encourage you to be deliberate and steadfast in your purpose and in your faith. Then watch how being intentional and having a plan will change your mood to where we can consider joy for this season.

In a recent Psychology Today article on loneliness and social isolation the author (Frank T. McAndrew) made the following statement: “Humans are hardwired to interact with others, especially during times of stress. When we go through a trying ordeal alone, a lack of emotional support and friendship can increase our anxiety and hinder our coping ability.”
Research has continued to demonstrate that meaningful connections to others is essential to our health and wellbeing. Add several stressful circumstances and a perceived sense of being overwhelmed and even the hardiest of individuals can crack. Isolation has a strong correlation to increased anxiety and depression. We are here to help you with the fears and work on coping skills during this difficult time of uncertainty and isolation.
