Earlier this year I spoke to a journalist who was doing an investigation on the Free Birth Society. The subsequent article has just been released and I think its very well done and I encourage anyone involved in birthwork to read it. I have long been a critic of FBS for what I have experienced them has having been and continue to be extremely dangerous for birthing people and their babies, in addition to racist and transphobic. I caution doulas against working with a parent who is considering an unassisted birth and consumes their content and suggest sharing this article with them as part of their decision-making process regarding their birth plans. If you are pregnant yourself or planning on becoming pregnant, please be very cautious of this group's teachings. It is a dangerous scam that has cost babies their lives. I will absolutely die on this hill. If anyone has not heard of this group, I am happy happy to discuss how I came to discover them early in my doula journey in 2016 when they were just getting off the ground and why birthing people and doulas should stay far away from them.
