The Montessori approach to caring for PLWD (person living with dementia) emphasizes purpose, joy and self-determination. Home is the easiest place to implement this approach. By knowing the person, their past, interests, career and hobbies allows them to continue to live authentically and remain involved and invested in their own life for as long as possible by whatever means they can.

Baltimore is facing a "silent crisis." Recent data shows our city and Prince George's County have the highest Alzheimer's prevalence in the country. This isn't just a statistic—it’s our neighbors, our parents, and our friends.
Caregiving is a heavy lift, but you don't have to carry it by yourself. Eye on Elders was founded right here in Baltimore to help local families find trusted solutions for aging relatives.
Whether you are navigating a new diagnosis or looking for better ways to manage challenging behaviors at home or in a facility, we offer:
✅ Personalized Behavioral Care Plans
✅ 1:1 Training for caregiving staff
✅ Clinical chart reviews by licensed experts
Let's make Baltimore a place where older adults don't just live, but flourish.

There is great discussion amongst professionals about what language to use when describing the more challenging aspects of caregiving for PLWD. Regardless of verbiage, Eye on Elders believes that knowing the individual on a deeper, more personal level along with ruling out any unaddressed needs or emotions such as hunger, fear, and pain can alleviate the challenge. without resorting to medication.

I spent the day in Annapolis for my first Alzheimer's Advocacy Day with the Alzheimer's Association

Not only did I meet some great people, but I spoke honestly to staff of District 11B's Dana Stein and Shelly Hettleman from both a caregiver and clinician perspective about the critical importance of House Bill 446/Senate Bill 555.

This bill will establish a clinical toolkit for Dementia Care. The toolkit will equip medical providers with practical, evidence based resources that they unfortunately do not learn in medical school or from the huge health systems some of them work for.

It was a meaningful and hopefully impactful day for the future of PLWD and caregivers across the state of Maryland!

Animals speak to us in ways people cannot. They give us unconditional love, unspoken support, warmth and kindness.

Caring for an animal through the dementia journey gives our elders purpose, a schedule and motivation. If your loved one has had a dog or cat their whole lives, help them continue to care for one as long as they are physically able.

Offer purpose, give insurmountable joy.
