October was a month of learning for our team!

Homes for Independent Living, a MyPath Company, hosted its annual Operations Fall Summit—an in-person event that brought together nearly 100 leaders from across our organization.

The goal: to equip regional leadership with the knowledge, insights, and tools to strengthen their effectiveness as proactive, strategic, and compliance-focused leaders.

Highlights included sessions on Workers’ Compensation & ADA Compliance with Meg Waldo, Navigating DHS Standards with Stephanie Brown, and a Leadership Insights panel featuring tenured leaders sharing best practices in risk management.

We’re proud of our leadership teams’ commitment to learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement — all in service of strengthening the care and support we provide every day.

Today, we pause to honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of our nation’s veterans—ordinary people who have done extraordinary things to protect our freedom.

This Veterans Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to all who have served, including the veterans within our own MyPath family.

Our Salute to Service Pathfinders reminds us that gratitude is best shown through action. We encourage everyone to find ways to give back, whether by volunteering, supporting veteran organizations, or simply taking time to thank those who’ve served.

Let’s continue to show our veterans that their dedication and bravery will never be forgotten.

Meet Lamonte—affectionately known as Monte, a nickname he loves to hear!

When Monte joined one of Homes for Independent Living’s (HIL) Waukesha homes in 2020, adjusting to new surroundings wasn’t easy. As a non-verbal person, he faced challenges expressing himself, but his team worked patiently to build trust and understanding.

Using pictures of his favorite things—like his tablet, van, and swing—Monte began communicating more clearly. Over time, he’s learned to say words like “thank you,” “please,” and “hi,” and enjoys helping with chores, taking walks, and watching old movies.

Monte’s happiness and confidence continue to grow every day thanks to his caring team. 💙

🌟 Spotlight on Leadership: Meet Abby Alt! 🌟

Abby Alt currently serves as Principal at The Richardson School (Madison), a MyPath Company, bringing more than 20 years of experience in education.

Her career has included roles as a regular and special education teacher, interventionist, Director of Pupil Services and Special Education, and middle school principal.

💭Abby shares,

“I’m passionate about building strong school communities grounded in trust and collaboration. I have a strong background in classroom management and enjoy training and sharing my experiences, tips, and tricks with others.”

Outside of school, Abby stays busy with her twin 15-year-olds and her charcoal lab. She enjoys Badger football games, golfing, gardening, boating, and attending “Friday dinner” at her parents’ house with the entire family. ❤️

🎉 Celebrating 30 Years with Genesee Lake School! 🎉

Please join us in congratulating Kara Mayfield on an incredible 30 years of service at Genesee Lake School (GLS), a MyPath Company! 💙

Kara started her journey as a Direct Support Professional and, within her first year, stepped into a Behavioral Specialist role, all while earning her master’s degree.

Over the years, she’s held many leadership roles, including Therapeutic Services Director, Residential Services Director, Case Coordination Director, and now serves as Service Coordination Director at GLS. 🌟

Kara has made a lasting impact—from helping develop the ICARE program and leading our COA accreditation, to enhancing systems and supporting colleagues’ growth along the way. She says the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a difference—while balancing work and family life—has been key to her longevity.

🌟 Meet Alex, a story of resilience and growth 🌟

When Alex first came to Homes for Independent Living (HIL), a MyPath Company, everything felt unfamiliar—the routines, the people, the environment.

Moving from a group home in Racine to be closer to his family was a big change, and it took courage.

The transition wasn’t easy. New routines felt overwhelming, and adjusting to life at HIL was a challenge. But step by step, Alex began to find his footing.

✨ He mastered daily routines that once seemed daunting.
✨ He gained independence in his personal care—a breakthrough moment.
✨ He found his voice, learning to express his needs and advocate for himself.
✨ And he discovered joy in baking with staff, turning it into both a skill-building and confidence-boosting activity.

Today, Alex is not the quiet, uncertain individual he was nine months ago. He is confident, engaged, and determined—his personality shining brighter each day.

At HIL, we believe every individual deserves the opportunity to grow, thrive, and live with independence and dignity. Alex’s story is a reminder of what’s possible when the right supports are in place. 💙

🎃👻 Happy Halloween from across MyPath! 👻🎃

Our MyPath community got into the Halloween spirit with plenty of creativity, costumes, and smiles! From pumpkin painting and spooky decorations to fun dress-up days, everyone enjoyed celebrating together. 🧡

At MyPath, we believe in creating opportunities for joy, connection, and self-expression, and Halloween was the perfect time to do just that.

💙 Walking for Hope and Healing 💙

Earlier this month, members of our MyPath Mental Health Pathfinders joined together at the Out of the Darkness Walk in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and in Indiana.

This annual event, hosted by the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention (AFSP), brings communities together to raise awareness, honor hope, and support su***de prevention efforts.

Every step taken, every story shared, and every donation made helps create a world with greater understanding, compassion, and support for mental health.

We’re proud of our Mental Health Pathfinders and all who participated—walking to remember, to support, and to help bring light to those who need it most. 💜

What a thoughtful act of kindness to show appreciation for the hard work our staff does every day.

SysLogic shares our Brookfield building, and they reached out asking if they could do something special for our team. We had no idea when it would happen—so the surprise made it even sweeter!
