🩺 We’re rolling out a vital new service designed to improve outcomes for the very sickest patients.
Hitting the streets today, the Madison Hospital Acute Care Transport ambulance is available to quickly shuttle critically ill patients from our Emergency Department to Huntsville Hospital if they need specialized services not offered locally. 🚑
It’s basically an Intensive Care Unit on wheels, staffed by paramedics, EMTs and nurses with years of critical care experience.
We envision using it to transport heart attack patients who require urgent interventions in the Cath Lab, stroke patients needing interventional radiology, and those who come to our ER with traumatic brain bleeds. ❤️🩹 🧠 🚨
We’ve nicknamed our new ambulance the “MAC 1” in honor of Madison County Commission Chairman Mac McCutcheon, who also serves on our volunteer hospital board. He and his fellow county commissioners helped secure grant funding to pay for the ambulance through their American Rescue Plan Act funding.
We also owe a huge debt of gratitude to the many philanthropic partners whose generous donations helped fund the specialized medical equipment aboard the MAC 1, including Alpha Foundation, Robins & Morton and Bentley Buick GMC.
And here’s an interesting fact: our custom-made ambulance was built right here in Madison by the talented folks at Excellance, Inc.
Chairman McCutcheon said he could have used a dedicated acute care transport ambulance back in 2014, when a visit to our ER revealed heart issues that required a transfer to Huntsville Hospital for emergency bypass surgery.
“To see this come full circle today is very, very special,” he said. “It will help so many.” 💚 🙌
