My yoga lovin fam here in Madison: I am holding a prenatal yoga session with Madison Doula Collective on September 12th and I was wondering if anyone has any yoga mats, blocks, bolsters or straps that they would like to donate to the cause?? I only need about 5 or 6 of each but if people are looking to offload, I would gladly take any and all!!
I’m hoping to start offering this on a routine basis.
Thank 💜💜

I want to tell this whole story. This whole enchanting, terrifying, exhilarating, traumatizing experience. From the beautiful, stunning births I attended (and very nearly catching my first baby), to the tragic suffering and loss that I bore witness to.
The good, the bad, the ugly and the heavenly.
Yet, it’s so hard to find the words. How do I express exactly how much I learned? About the amount of privilege we have in the U.S., yet how far we have to go to ensure the highest quality of care for everyone.

I will tell the whole story. It needs to be said.

This was the most beautiful, revitalizing, grounding experience that was rooted in healing for Black and Brown souls doing birthwork. The Ashland Birth Center is beyond amazing and truly inspiring. I can not wait to go back.

First, I want to thank everyone for celebrating my achievement!! Seeing all of the responses had me crying snotty tears 😭😭😭 I love you all so much! 💜💜
2. I’d especially love to thank Kerida for their reply because it reminded me of an ask!
Along with nursing school, I am also currently working on a Certificate in Global Health program at UW Madison. I just finished the first semester and my mind is blown! There is a field experience requirement as part of the program and I have had the incredible opportunity to design my own field study: In June, I will be traveling to St. Lucia and working at St. Jude’s Hospital on their Labor and Delivery floor to learn about the birth culture from their nurses and nurse midwives, and engaging with Public Health partners to study the resources and support systems in place for reproductive health care. My research will examine the breadth of understanding and incorporation of doula support in Saint Lucian birth culture.
This is literally the dream. I am so incredibly grateful and excited to be able to pursue my passion in my home country. To learn from my people, the history of birth in the West Indies and what birth practices are today?? Life changing.

Field experiences are not cheap and federal aid is nonexistent for me. Historically, black people have had incredible economic barriers to experiences like this and it still holds true for me, today. However, I believe in this so much and I know how intensely the knowledge I gain from this experience will positively impact my community, that I’m will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

It would be a great graduation gift if you can support me and my field experience in any way- small amount, medium amount, large amount (😉), or a share, I would be eternally grateful. I have a fundraiser going and I can also accept donations to the various apps and such. The information will be in the comments!!

If these past several months have shown me anything, it’s the confirmation that our healthcare system is rigged against black folx. I was incredibly lucky that I could assemble a team to help me fight for the birth I wanted. I won that battle. However, I’m still fighting.
Because the healthcare system. Is rigged. Against black folx.
I’m lucky to have the privilege of a support and advocacy team, filled with people who look like me and can relate to my experiences. I want to be that support and advocate for others.
It’s stupefying to know that you can count on one hand the number of Black Midwives in WI. Something needs to change and I’m working incredibly hard to be that change. Can you support me on my journey? Be it a donation or a share, anything helps.
