Northwoods Tea & Herb, LLC is an organic and wild-harvested health food-based company that is located in the heart of the Northwoods, Eagle River, WI. We offer the best quality wild mushrooms (edible and medicinal), dried herbs, and tea. Ingredients included in our products are foraged wild in northern and central Wisconsin and are not cultivated or grown. We take pride in our company and only provide herbs that are harvested sustainably. Our commercial kitchen is located in Wausau, WI, where we take the very best herbs and minimally process them into a simple natural product. This is where we dry everything and test for heavy metals and pesticides. Setting the standard for modern wild-harvested goods.

New and improved "Bee Balm herbal tea" is sold on our website. Will be handing out samples at the Dane County Farmers' Market this Saturday. Bee Balm "Wild bergamot" tea tastes great and makes for a great headache remedy too.

A shadow of its formal self… There are only a handful of giant elms left in the Midwest that have dodged “Dutch Elm Disease”. This is one of them, a rare survivor on Highway 10 in Wood County. I've conversed over the years about why this one hasn’t been affected. But… this year will be its last, as one of the largest American elm trees in Wisconsin. Its flagging shows it’s succumbing to the infection. Just like the loss of the chestnut and butternut, the forest is an ever-changing place with species rising and falling.

Why this is better? There is an intricate process involved in properly harvesting and drying herbs. At the market, people often ask how did you get it so green? And the answer has two parts.

• First, we harvest the first-year canes before they start to flower because once the flowering stage begins, the plant will shift nutrients to the flowers more than the leaf. We want the most nutrient leaves so that's the time to get them... about the peak of mosquito season.
• The second part is the drying process. We use no heat whatsoever, so the first time any bioactive compounds are extracted is when you steep it. If it's nice and green and high in chlorophyll, then we can assume it's high in all other compounds as well. And that's hard to beat.

After over-seeding "dry spots" for a two-year wild ramp rotation, we still forage... Morels, fiddleheads, Phlox, Waterleaf, Trout lily, Hawthorn, and others. Sustainable harvesting is the most important factor. 10 years later these ramps look better now than they did before.
