Last week, the Simpson County Center came together to raise awareness and show support during National Su***de Prevention Week. Through activities, conversations, and shared resources, we were reminded that mental health matters and no one has to walk alone.

In a world that often tells us to prioritize others above ourselves, it’s essential to recognize the divine importance of self-love. God created each of us in His image, and to love ourselves is to honor His creation. When we love ourselves, we are better equipped to love others authentically and wholeheartedly.

Consider the commandment in Matthew 22:39. Jesus emphasizes the necessity of loving ourselves as a prerequisite to loving our neighbors. This scripture reveals that self-love is not selfish but rather a foundational aspect of our ability to extend love to others. When we understand our worth and value in Christ, we can begin to see ourselves through His eyes.

Take a few moments today to write down three things you appreciate about yourself. Reflect on how these qualities reflect God’s love and purpose in your life. Allow this exercise to remind you that loving yourself is a beautiful expression of gratitude for the life God has given you.
