The traditional teachings of yoga can help us navigate our lives in a more peaceful and less egocentric manner. It takes awareness and restraint…especially during the challenging and confusing periods of our lives.
As a reminder for students (existing & potential) at Santosha Springs Yoga in Maiden Rock, there will be no classes held in November. I will be in Peru during that time.
See you in December!
The practice of truthfulness is not necessarily to speak the literal truth at all times, and it is not merely to state things as they are. We must ensure that we not harm others by our statements. Remember, the foremost practice is non-harmfulness; truthfulness is subordinate to this practice. In a wider perspective, if stating the truth will do more damage than good, the spirit of truthfulness is better served by leaving it unsaid.
Why speak the truth? Adhering to the truth is not a moral edict in yoga. Krishnamacharya would say that by speaking the truth, we free ourselves of the burden of falsehood. We reinforce our efforts toward conquering our ego and our desires, dislikes, and fears. Occasionally, telling a falsehood is unavoidable in worldly life, especially in modern times. Still, if we follow truthfulness to the extent that we can, it will lead to peace of mind, freedom, and simplicity in relationships.
