Let's start talking about some of the homeopathic drugs I have in my house. ( I get asked about this from time to time from family.) First off- most popular one I would say is Arnica. Arnica Montana, also called Leopard's or wolf's bane, is quite a pretty flower. Image that pretty flower getting beaten to a pulp and then being diluted out until hardly any is left. Yup- that is homeopathy. They are little white tablets that go under the tongue to relieve dull, bruising pain.

Since school, I have always been facinated with mitochondria.

We are made of multiple cells. Within our cells, there are little "organs" that do their job to help our cells and organs do their assigned job. They are called, "organelles" which means little organs. The mitochondria's job is a heater. They produce energy so that each cell, tissue, organ, system can do their jobs. Since the 21st century emerged there has been more and more research about these little energy generators. One of them being that they have the same genetic codes as your maternal line and if mapped out can determine your time on this earth! Again, I am highly invested in the studies they conclude about the mitochondria. Here is some info about their ability and how it declines over the decades.

Your mitochondria help set the tone of your immune response
When a respiratory virus hits, immune cells shift mitochondrial pathways like the citric acid cycle, fatty acid oxidation, and OXPHOS to power defense. Mitochondrial ROS also signal NF-κB, antiviral inflammasomes, and type I interferons. Afterward, you need enough antioxidant capacity to calm things down.

What influences mitochondrial and antioxidant status?
• Nutrition and key enzyme cofactors
• Age-related changes in efficiency
• Ongoing inflammation or allergies
• Environmental toxicants (metals, chemicals)
• Chronic psychological stress

If you want a biochemical snapshot, dried urine Organic Acids testing can highlight where support may help mitochondrial efficiency and immune resilience.

We have something new coming related to metabolic health and toxin insights. Use code “toxic” for exclusive details.

Internist work begins when you first see the patient. How do they talk. How are they walking into the office. When I shake their hand, I am gathering hand strength. I am (low key) looking at their nails. I am looking at the skin on the hand. I am gathering information on everything. The examination begins as soon as you walk into the office. They can either give us clues into the patient. Once performing physical examinations we can deduct what lab work needs to be ordered. Just running through my mind.

Confession time! I have HORRIBLE testing anxiety. I went to school and would sweat through my clothes, tremors in my hands, stuttering, stumbling over words, and the peak of it all- hyperventilation. I never realized how terrible I was until this weekend when I performed my practical for my diplomat. I was still stumbling over words even after the exam was over.
Obviously, it didn't stop me because I am a chiropractic physician with certifications in acupuncture, a certified medical examiner, and studies in Naturopathic Medicine. ( I went all the way until right before clinic before withdrawing.)
My message is this: Don't let disabilities stop you. You are only in your own way.

Functional Medicine is NOT just throwing some supplements to the wind. It is finding the ROOT CAUSE of the problem. We work so much on stress and distraction that we may think we have one problem-but it is more like 4-5 issues. I have seen people who didn't realize that their stomachs were bloated, they are gassy in the evening hours, and they have brain fog. Which is why we do functional medicine consultations. Let's chat!

It is the end of September which I will be discussing more about CHIROPRACTIC!!! I love October because it is Chiropractic Awareness Month. Let's begin teaching more about the benefits of Chiropractic and how it helps the quality of life.

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) and doctors of chiropractic nationwide will celebrate National Chiropractic Health Month this October with the theme “Get Started with Chiropractic.” The campaign will raise awareness of how taking a non-drug approach to pain initially may help you to avoid riskier treatments later. Look for more information about chiropractic and musculoskeletal health at HandsDownBetter.org the conversation on social media this October using . I always talk about eating healthy well, here is your chance. I see two types of salad with a strawberry vinaigrette dressing or balsamic vinegar. Grapes for a snack. Eat to live.

Why eat in season?

Because nature knows what it’s doing
When you choose seasonal produce, you’re getting:
More nutrients – Foods grown and picked in their natural season are fresher and more nutrient-dense.

Lower cost – Abundance = affordability. Seasonal fruits + veggies are often cheaper because they don’t need long storage or shipping.

Better flavor – Ever noticed how a tomato in September tastes nothing like one in February? That’s the power of in-season eating.

Eating with the seasons isn’t about perfection, it’s about reconnecting to what your body actually needs right now. In fall, nature gives us grounding root veggies and cozy squashes. In summer, hydrating fruits and crisp greens. It’s built-in nourishment.

A few days ago, I saw a case that I have never seen before in all my 15 years of being a chiropractor. I saw the MRI report of the head of a person who had Empty Sella Syndrome or ESS. I once again found another contraindication of a cervical adjustment.
( SN: It appears that they are missing a pituitary gland in their head. The Pituitary Gland is one of the master stations for precursor hormones that control the adrenals, s*x glands, and thyroid.) One of the biggest symptoms- headaches.

Empty sella syndrome is when your pituitary gland flattens due to issues with the sella turcica, a bony structure that surrounds your pituitary.

Not sure which antibody test your patient needs?
Different symptoms can point to different immune responses. By matching symptoms to the right antibody, you’ll know which test provides the clearest insight.

Additionally, understanding the distinctions between whether a reaction is inflammatory, protective, or tolerance-building is key to selecting the right test for your patient:

🔵 Immunoglobulin G1-3 or IgG
IgG is an antibody that can activate the pro-inflammatory complement system (complement cascade) associated with chronic inflammatory conditions. High levels of IgG (class II or higher) overload receptors and drive the inflammatory reaction while low levels of IgG (class 0/I) indicate tolerance.

IgG food sensitivity testing is the most commonly performed food sensitivity testing and foods that are only high in IgG can often be safely re-introduced after a period of abstinence.

🔴 Immunoglobulin G4 or IgG4
IgG4 is an antibody which in most people does not activate the complement system, but instead is a “blocking antibody” for IgE. The presence of IgG4 is protective, not inflammatory, as IgG4/IgE binding tends to decrease IgE hypersensitivity (true allergy). If IgG4 is high, testing for IgE reactivity is advised and it may be best to remove the food from the diet permanently.

Independent increases in IgG4 only can be associated with certain autoimmune conditions such as eosinophilic esophagitis.

🟢 Immunoglobulin A or IgA
IgA is an antibody that can activate the pro-inflammatory complement system. Unlike Secretory IgA (sIgA) in stool, which is two IgA molecules bound together and secreted into the gut, serum IgA levels are associated with allergies and asthma. A Serum IgA reaction to food triggers can indicate foods that are irritating the lining of the gut.
