Staying well hydrated (we recommend 64 ounces of water each day) can make a BIG difference in the quality and clarity of your ultrasound images—especially when it comes to seeing baby’s sweet face clearly. The more hydrated you are, the better the environment for those beautiful, detailed images you’re hoping for! 💗💙

Of course, there are some things we can’t control—sometimes babies are a little shy, turned away, or just not in the mood to cooperate (we get it, they already have personalities!) 💗💙 In those moments, we may suggest simple things like drinking a little juice, moving around, or even taking a quick restroom break. At Chubby Cheeks Ultrasound of High Point, we’re always sharing ways to make your ultrasound experience the very best it can be—but today, let’s talk about how to make your gender reveal blood work appointment go smoothly 💗💙

✨ Hydration is key
Please drink at least 64 ounces of water every day throughout your entire pregnancy. Staying well hydrated helps us obtain an adequate blood sample for your gender reveal bloodwork, and it also makes a tremendous difference in the clarity of your ultrasound images.

✨ Don’t come on an empty stomach
Have a light snack about 30 minutes before your appointment.

✨ Important reminder
If you have a male with you, they will be asked to wait in the lobby—including children. This test is extremely sensitive and can detect male DNA, so we want to ensure the most accurate results possible.

✨ Timing matters
We know how exciting this moment is, but it’s important to wait until you are at least 6 weeks pregnant. Before then, there may not be enough fetal DNA to accurately determine gender.

✨ What to expect after your draw
Results take on average 72 hours. Your blood work will be dropped off with FedEx the same day it’s drawn. You’re welcome to take a photo of your tracking number—once your sample arrives in California, your results will typically be delivered between 7–11 PM that same day.

✨ Planning ahead
Gender reveal blood work begins at 6 weeks, and ultrasounds are available starting at 9 weeks.

✨ When should I come in for my 3D/4D ultrasound experience? ✨

We recommend scheduling your visit between 27–32 weeks for the best experience! This is when baby’s features are most detailed—those adorable chubby cheeks are filled out, and you can often see the sweetest facial expressions. 💗💙

Some families choose to come a little earlier, and that’s perfectly okay! You can visit us as early as 24 weeks, just keep in mind that baby will be smaller and details may not be quite as clear yet.

Once you get beyond 32 weeks, it can become a little more challenging to capture baby’s full face in one image. Babies are growing, getting cozy, and sometimes a little stubborn when they find their favorite position!

Here are a few important tips before booking your heartbeat ultrasound:

🤍 You should be confidently at least 9 weeks pregnant
🤍 If you’re unsure of dates, we recommend having at least 3 missed cycles
🤍 Drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment
