It’s designed to be one of the most fun and safe weekend options in Cortez for teens to relax, be themselves, and connect with friends—without pressure, judgment, or “one more thing” to perform. For parents, it’s a consistent, supervised space you can feel good about, built to meet a real need in our community.

Wellbriety Roots: Love-Based Thinking

Dear Relatives,

Many of our people are feeling the weight of these times. What is happening around us politically, socially, and within our communities has created a climate of tension, uncertainty, and fear. For many, these moments are activating old trauma and deep pain that our people have carried for generations.

We want you to know you are not alone!

Our Wellbriety teachings remind us that there are two ways of thinking and responding to the world: love-based thinking and fear-based thinking.

Love-based thinking keeps us in harmony. It shows up as forgiveness, respect, honor, integrity, unity, balance, and justice. It strengthens relationships and supports recovery and healing for individuals, families, and communities.

Fear-based thinking pulls us out of harmony. It shows up as shame, control, sarcasm, belittling, bullying, attacking one another, separation, and the need to be right or hold power over others. Fear-based thinking is loud right now. It spreads quickly, especially when people are hurting or feeling unsafe.

Our ancestors knew this struggle well. They lived through times of great injustice, loss, and upheaval, and they taught us something powerful. We always have a choice in how we think, how we speak, and how we treat one another, even in the hardest moments.

At White Bison, we are choosing to stay grounded in love-based thinking and to keep our focus on recovery. This does not mean ignoring injustice or remaining silent. It means standing up for our rights and the rights of others without becoming harmful to one another. It means speaking truth with respect, holding boundaries with integrity, and remembering that fear cannot be allowed to guide our healing work. It means to keep walking with Wellbriety principles, one day at a time.

Now, more than ever, we are called to come together to support one another. When fear tries to divide us, connection becomes medicine. When trauma rises, ceremony, culture, and community help carry us through. We are being asked to pause and reflect.
Which thought system am I using right now? Am I responding from love, or reacting from fear?

We invite you to take action in ways that bring us back into harmony:
• Reach out to someone who may be struggling.
• Return to ceremony, prayer, or quiet reflection in whatever way feels right for you.
• Stay committed to your recovery and support others in theirs.
• Choose words that heal rather than harm.
• Stand up for justice without losing compassion.
• Support intergenerational healing by modeling balance for those who are watching us, especially our children.

Wellbriety teaches us that healing is not just about abstaining from substances. It is about restoring balance in our thinking, our relationships, and our communities. Even in uncertain times, love-based thinking remains our strongest medicine. The Medicine Wheel teaches us about balance emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. In times like these, we are reminded to return to that balance and ground ourselves in what we know to be true: that healing is a lifelong journey, that recovery is possible, and that love for our people is stronger than any force that seeks to harm us.

Remember, healing begins with how we treat one another every day, in small and meaningful ways. We are grateful for each of you who continues to walk this path with courage and humility. Together, we will stay the course for our ancestors, for ourselves, and for the generations yet to come.
