Erasure of Identity:

The contraction/nickname, “Vee” was “given” to me by a 6th grade teacher in middle school. She was white, like the majority of my teachers in Clarkstown and couldn’t be bothered to learn my name.

I adapted, to survive. I didn’t have a voice enough or the courage to correct every single person who butchered my name.

Vee was released in a bonfire.
May she RIP

Self Advocacy:

I have scheduled two consecutive hours in the middle of my work day to do nothing, chase the sun light while taking photos, solo bike rides while signing at the top of my lungs because anxiety is real.

Integrating wellness into my workday has helped me show up as the Veundja I need, am proud of and is fully expressed in the work I do.

Wellness looks different to each of us, we need to respect this in each other before we’re able to move from where we are.

Renegotiate your wellness with yourself, then share your new terms with everyone you’re in regular business dealings with.

Sustainability starts at the core. Your wellness matters and success is a construct.
