🚁 Training the Next Generation of Paramedics 🚑

Flight crews from Air Evac Lifeteam 33 - Middlesboro, KY, Air Evac Lifeteam 109 - Manchester, KY, Air Evac Lifeteam 88 - Harlan, KY had the opportunity to spend the past few days working alongside the paramedic students of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College!

Our crews led hands-on training focused on Trauma Care, giving students the chance to sharpen critical skills in a high-energy learning environment. Students participated in realistic, scenario-based training designed to challenge their decision-making, teamwork, and clinical abilities under pressure.

Experiences like these are vital in preparing the next generation of providers to deliver exceptional care when it matters most.

Please join us in proudly welcoming our newest part-time Flight Paramedic, Oscar McQueen, to the Air Evac Lifeteam 109 team!

Oscar brings over a decade of experience in emergency medical services, having served as a paramedic with Jackson County EMS since 2012. He has also dedicated his skills and passion for patient care while working with Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County and Madison County EMS.

A graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, Oscar earned his Bachelor of Science in Emergency Medical Care, further strengthening his clinical knowledge and commitment to excellence.

His experience, professionalism, and dedication to serving others make him a tremendous addition to our crew, and we are excited to have him join the Air EVAC family.

Flight Nurses Chad Still Air Evac Lifeteam 109 and Tyler Murray Air Evac Lifeteam 33 - Middlesboro, KY spent the day with Clay Co. EMS delivering high-impact training on basic airway adjuncts and advanced airway management—two of the most critical skill sets in emergency medicine.

Providers didn’t just review concepts—they put them into action. Hands-on stations focused on airway control, with an emphasis on the SALAD (Suction Assisted Laryngoscopy Airway Decontamination) technique, giving crews the tools to manage contaminated airways with confidence. Training took place inside the back of an ambulance, creating realistic, high-stress scenarios that mirror the environments providers face every day.

By combining education with real-world application, this training helps ensure EMS professionals are prepared to make fast, effective, and life-saving decisions when seconds matter most.

Yesterday and Today flight crews from Air Evac Lifeteam 109, Air Evac Lifeteam 33 - Middlesboro, KY, Air Evac Lifeteam 88 - Harlan, KY was invited to Southeast Community College’s nursing program to instruct ACLS. We got to spend the past 2 days educating the future nurses of the importance of BLS and ACLS care! Lectures and hands on skills!

We had a fun, friendly competitive competition in performing quality CPR (using QCPR manikins), when the nursing students challenged the instructors to beat their scores!

We had an amazing time and look forward to seeing these future nurses out in the hospitals providing excellent patient care!
