🐟 Food as Medicine for Women’s Health 🐟

Shoutout to Aldi for this beautiful piece of trout 🙌
Even better — my daughter tried trout for the first time and loved it 💕

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, nutrition plays a key role in hormonal balance and overall vitality. Trout is considered a nourishing food that supports Blood and Qi, which are essential for healthy menstrual cycles, fertility, postpartum recovery, and energy levels.

When the body is well nourished, it’s better able to regulate hormones, manage stress, and heal naturally. Acupuncture works hand in hand with food therapy to support women through every stage of life — from cycle regulation to menopause.

If you’re experiencing fatigue, irregular cycles, PMS, or hormonal imbalances, acupuncture and individualized care can help bring your body back into balance.

✨ One of my all-time favorite acupuncture points: GB 20 (Wind Pool) ✨
(Yes—that’s the tiny needle I’m pointing to in the photo!)

I love GB 20 because it FEELS amazing and because it shows up in nearly every headache and migraine treatment in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In TCM, GB 20 is known as Wind Pool—a place where external and internal “wind” can lodge and rise to the head, triggering pain, tension, dizziness, and that heavy, foggy feeling so many headache patients describe.

But here’s where it gets really cool from a Western medicine perspective 👇

GB 20 sits right next to a critical neurological intersection called the trigeminocervical complex. This is where sensory input from the upper cervical spine and the trigeminal nerve (a major player in migraines) converge and communicate. When this area becomes irritated—think muscle tension, poor posture, stress—it can amplify migraine and headache pain.

By stimulating GB 20, we’re influencing this exact region:
• relaxing tight suboccipital muscles
• reducing nerve sensitization
• calming overactive pain pathways involved in migraines

Ancient wisdom 🤝 modern neuroscience.

This is why GB 20 is such a powerful point—not just because it feels good, but because it makes sense on every level.

🎄✨ ’Twas the Night Before Christmas… TCM Style ✨🎄

’Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house,
The Qi was a-stirring (even calmer than a mouse).
The Yin had settled, the Yang took a rest,
Winter whispered softly, “Slow down—this is best.”

❄️🌑 Happy First Day of Winter! 🌑❄️

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, winter isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing less (on purpose!).

Winter is the season of rest, reflection, and restoration, ruled by the Kidneys, our deep energy reserves. Think of it as your body’s recharge season 🔋✨

Just like nature goes quiet, this is the time to slow down, keep warm, sleep a little more, and nourish yourself deeply. When we honor winter, we build stronger energy for spring growth 🌱

Acupuncture in winter can help:
• Support immunity
• Calm the nervous system
• Restore depleted energy
• Keep stress from freezing you solid 😌

So today, bundle up, sip something warm, and give yourself permission to rest.
Your body will thank you when spring arrives 💙

Ever notice redness around an acupuncture needle?

That redness is called Sha in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It happens when the needle helps release areas of tension or stagnation, allowing Qi and Blood to flow more freely. Increased circulation = healing ✨

Sha is:
• Normal
• Temporary
• A sign your body is responding

It’s not bruising and usually fades quickly—often with noticeable relief.

Curious how acupuncture can help your body heal and rebalance?

Chocolate… but make it Traditional Chinese Medicine 🍫✨

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), chocolate (especially dark chocolate) is more than just a treat—it can actually have health benefits when enjoyed in moderation.

From a TCM perspective, chocolate is considered warming and can help:
• Move Qi and Blood
• Support circulation
• Gently lift mood and calm the spirit
• Nourish the Heart

Dark chocolate, in particular, contains antioxidants and magnesium, which can help with stress and muscle tension—two things I see often in my acupuncture practice.

Like all foods in TCM, balance is key. Too much chocolate may create Dampness or Heat, especially if digestion is weak—but enjoyed mindfully, it can be part of a healthy lifestyle.

So yes… a little chocolate can be good for you 😉
Pair it with acupuncture for even better balance and wellness.
Don't have to tell me twice!

Thumb & wrist pain? It might be De Quervain’s Syndrome.

De Quervain’s Syndrome is a common condition that causes pain and swelling on the thumb side of the wrist. It often shows up with activities like texting, lifting a baby, repetitive gripping, or computer work. You may notice pain when turning your wrist, gripping objects, or making a fist.

How can acupuncture help?
Acupuncture works by reducing inflammation, improving circulation, and relaxing tight muscles and tendons around the wrist and thumb. Many people find acupuncture helps:
• Decrease pain and swelling
• Improve range of motion
• Speed up healing
• Reduce the need for medication

Treatment is gentle and tailored to the root cause of your pain—not just the symptoms.

If wrist or thumb pain is affecting your daily life, acupuncture may be a natural and effective option.
