We mourn the loss of a brother from the St. Paul Fire Department. Condolences to the brothers and sisters, the department and the family of Firefighter Tim Bertz.

The Saint Paul Fire Department mourns the loss of Firefighter Timothy Bertz, who passed away yesterday following a serious medical event. Firefighter Bertz, a recent graduate of the Saint Paul Fire Academy and proud military veteran, served with dedication and left a lasting impact. Our deepest condolences to his wife, family, and loved ones.

A public memorial will be held on December 29 at Maranatha Church in Forest Lake. We request privacy for the family during this difficult time.

It was bitterly cold and windy but we had fun getting out and about! Thank you to those who came out to see Santa and Mrs. Claus, Sparky, and members of Maplewood Police and Fire! We want to wish everyone safe and happy holiday season!
P.S. Please dont drink and drive, stay off your phone and make sure you find a sober driver!

This has been a BUSY week for Maplewood Firefighters!
We had the joy of receiving some amazing goodies from our community members but also some very special gifts from a couple of young men who are part of Dynamic Connections. These young men are non-verbal autistic and create special packages for programs like cancer centers. We feel extremely blessed to have received one of these boxes and learn about them as wonderful people and excited to hopefully learn more about autism from them!
Fire and police personnel from Maplewood also spent time delivering gifts to local schools and assisted living facilities through the Maplewood Public Safety Angel Tree Program so that the holidays can be a little brighter for our community members!

We want to congratulate Fire Marshal Jerry Novak on 30 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Maplewood! Jerry began his fire service career in 1995 as a paid on call firefighter when Maplewood was served by independent departments; Gladstone, Hazelwood, Parkside and East County Line. In 2002, when Maplewood Firefighters Local 4470 was established, he was a charter member representing one of six full time personnel!

Farmington community,

I’m writing to share some tragic and sad news. Late last night, Officer Pete Zajac took his life. Officer Zajac was a well-respected fifteen-year veteran of the Farmington Police Department, and is survived by his wife and three children. Officer Zajac spent the past two years serving as the School Resource Officer within the Farmington school district. Our entire police department family is in mourning and our hearts go out to his entire family. His presence within our department and our community as a whole will be missed. A sincere thank you to our law enforcement partners, and those in the community who have surrounded us in our time of need and those that will support us in the tough times ahead.
