The Healthy Youth Coalition was recently awarded $20,000 from the Hugh Bretl Memorial Foundation for their most recent fundraiser held on September 11, 2021. This brings the total to over $120,000 that the event has donated to the coalition in nine years. In 2013, Hugh Bretl was tragically taken from his loved ones due to a drug addiction. In his memory, his father Mike Bretl has made it his mission to prevent this from happening to other families. Shortly after his son’s passing, he held a memorial fishing tournament to help raise funds to combat drug abuse. He heard about the Healthy Youth Coalition of Marinette & Menominee Counties’ (HYC) financial situation with their federal funding nearing its expiration, Mike and his team made the decision to donate the proceeds to HYC. “I can’t emphasis enough how important our sponsors are and how much we appreciate them. Without them, this event wouldn’t be successful.” Says Mike Bretl. He also goes on to say, “we want to thank Mike Biehl for the use of Edgewater/Applejacks and all of Pam’s hard work with having the event at their location.” Bretl encourages anyone that wants to be involved in planning the 2022 event, or interested in donating to the cause, to please contact the Foundation at (715) 735-5844.
