Studies have demonstrated that interacting with animals can decrease cortisol levels (the stress hormone) while increasing oxytocin, the hormone associated with bonding and trust. These physiological changes can lead to reduced anxiety, lower blood pressure, and improved overall mood.
For older adults, pet therapy has been shown to support emotional well-being, encourage social interaction, and even improve cognitive engagement. A simple visit from a therapy dog can spark memories, conversation, and genuine connection, moments that truly matter.
