Your Journey to Recovery Starts Here! In 1970, The Discovery Institute was established in New Jersey as a state-operated, residential drug-free rehabilitation center. Throughout time, The Discovery Institute's treatment has changed to meet the individual needs of alcohol and drug addiction. Discovery Institute continues to view drug and alcohol addiction as a disorder of the whole person affecting every aspect of their behavior, belief system, and lifestyle. Since approximately 2004 almost 600 people have died from drug overdoses in the State of New Jersey, making drug overdose the lead cause of accidental death in the state. He**in and prescription drug addiction continue to be one of New Jersey toughest battles. Discovery Institute offers unlimited hope, realistic solutions, and viable alternatives to the nightmare of drug abuse and alcoholism.As a leader in substance abuse and mental health treatment in the state of New Jersey, the programs we have developed derive from our own clinical experience with thousands of addicted individuals and families, rather than from a pre-packaged program or insurance company mandate. This enables us to be more creative and purposeful in terms of individualized treatment design and allows us the freedom to work more effectively with a wide range of drug/ alcohol and mental health related problems.The Discovery Institute's experience in helping individuals seek recovery from drugs and alcohol has taught us there is more than one approach that can be successful. An individual's treatment must effectively address both one's medical, mental, and spiritual health. Most often, an individual's path towards recovery is rooted in their struggles with relationships, family dynamics, social skills, and lack of mental health awareness. In our view, the goals of recovery are global ? necessitating a total change in lifestyle that encompasses an individual's re-evaluation of values, attitudes, behavior, and social activities.We offer many different programs at The Discovery Institute such as medical detox from all narcotics and alcohol, short term and long term residential treatment, dual diagnosis, family programs, outpatient services, and aftercare planning. We have specialty track programs focusing on underlying or outside issues such as sexual and physical abuse, domestic violence, HIV/HEP-C, gay ,le***an ,transgender, anger management and legal problems. While in our treatment program, clients work together (with staff guidance) to develop a capacity for the recognition, expression, and understanding of their drug and alcohol problems. They also gain the skills that are necessary to change negative thinking patterns and behaviors. Most importantly, they recognize that their addiction has not left them alone.
