Always check for details. A census shows two children, a second marriage and a new location. At first glance, these children seem to have the same parents listed on the census. Looking closely, it shows the older child is 18 years old and the couple were only married 10 years. Turns out the older child is from the spouse's previous marriage. Details are important!

Census are valuable genealogy records. Remember the census taker was allowed to ask anyone competent to answer the questions of who lived in a particular household. This could be the janitor in an apartment complex, a neighbor, an older child; therefore, ages could be inaccurate.

Lands records are a wonderful source and often reveal family relations. Take the time to transcribe them carefully. Many are on familysearch.org in the catalog. You may have to search through the index first and then find the deed book. County courts also hold deeds and some are opening by appointment only.
