December is National Safe Toys and Gifts Month! As we celebrate the holiday season, it’s important to choose toys and gifts that keep children safe. Before gifting, take a moment to check age recommendations, avoid small parts for young children, and ensure items meet safety standards. Safe gifts mean joyful celebrations. Here are options for Safe Toys for Children:

For Infants (0–12 months):
- Soft, plush toys with embroidered eyes (no small parts)
- Soft teething rings and silicone teethers
- Cloth or board books
- Rattles that are larger than the child’s mouth

For Toddlers (1–3 years):
- Stacking blocks (large, smooth, non-toxic)
- Shape sorters and large puzzles
- Pull toys and ride-on toys with stable bases
- Non-toxic crayons and washable markers

For Preschoolers (3–5 years):
- Large LEGO Duplo sets
- Play kitchens and pretend play sets (without small detachable pieces)
- Wooden puzzles and matching games
- Balls of soft material, such as foam or rubber

For School-Age Children (5+ years):
- Board games appropriate for age (no small choking parts)
- STEM kits with safety guidelines
- Sports equipment (helmets and padding recommended)
- Art supplies labeled non-toxic

Safety Tips:
- Avoid toys with small parts for children under 3 (choking hazard).
- Check for sharp edges, toxic paints, or loose parts.
- Ensure toys meet ASTM F963 or CPSC safety standards.
- Supervise young children with any new toy.

Let’s help keep the season bright, fun, and injury-free!

This National Handwashing Awareness Week, we highlight the life-saving power of proper hand hygiene. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds can prevent the spread of respiratory infections by 16–21% and reduce diarrheal illness by 31%.

Handwashing is one of the simplest, most effective ways to protect yourself and others from germs, including viruses and bacteria. By making hand hygiene a daily habit, we can help reduce illness, prevent outbreaks, and keep our communities healthier. Clean hands truly save lives! 🧼✋

Today, on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we recognize the contributions, talents, and resilience of people with disabilities around the world. According to the World Health Organization, over 1 billion people, or about 15% of the global population, live with some form of disability. Despite this, many face barriers to education, employment, healthcare, and accessibility.

This day is a call to action to promote inclusion, remove barriers, and ensure equal opportunities for all. By creating accessible environments, raising awareness, and celebrating abilities, we foster a society where everyone can thrive and contribute fully. Together, we can build a world that values diversity, empowers individuals, and champions equity for people of all abilities. ♿

World AIDS Day, observed every year on December 1 since 1988, is a global reminder to raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS pandemic, support those living with HIV, and honor the millions of lives lost. Today, more than 39 million people worldwide are living with HIV. Thanks to medical advancements, individuals receiving proper treatment can live long, healthy lives, and effective medications can reduce the virus to undetectable levels, preventing transmission (U=U).

Despite progress, many communities still face stigma, unequal access to care, and gaps in prevention resources. World AIDS Day calls us to remember, educate, and advocate for equitable healthcare and compassionate support for all. Together, we move closer to a future where new HIV infections are rare, and every person has the opportunity to thrive.

Today is World Pneumonia Day- Observed every year on November 12, this day raises awareness about one of the world’s most preventable and treatable illnesses, yet still one of the leading infectious causes of death worldwide.

Did you know?

- Pneumonia claims about 2.2 million lives each year, including over 500,000 children under age 5.
- It affects people of all ages but poses the greatest risk to young children, older adults, and those with chronic conditions.
- The good news: Pneumonia is preventable through vaccination, good nutrition, clean air, and timely medical care.
- At MSPB, we’re committed to raising awareness and promoting preventive care because every breath counts.

Let’s work together to protect our communities through education, vaccination, and early detection.

Outside of the clinic, Mini finds joy in traveling and spending time with her family and friends, including her two children.
We’re grateful for Mini’s commitment, empathy, and dedication to improving the lives of children every day.
