Brothers of the Rite (BOR) founded in 2015 by the Valley of Marquette AASR NMJ. A Scottish Rite Club with a targeted, innovative approach to promote exposure and raise awareness of Scottish Rite and Freemasonry. We are hoping to attract & retain new membership, especially younger generations with the intent to balance out the age distribution in our Masonic fraternity to a more healthy and sustainable structure. Brothers of the Rite (BOR), being a Scottish Rite Club, will always strive to support our Vision, Mission and Core Values as set forth by the Supreme Council, in our daily labors and our BOR events. Requirement for membership: Each perspective member will:
Be a member in good standing in Scottish Rite
Adopt a Scottish Rite Name (from the various degrees of Scottish Rite)
Need to purchase a designated shirt with Logo, SR name and BOR on the sleeve
Need to attend and successfully partake in the initiation ceremony
The Ceremony Focus is to have fun and leave an impression that will help to recruit and retain members that are young and young at heart. During the ceremony the Brothers will be briefed as to the symbolic particulars of the Logo. Brothers of the Rite will have no obligations. Through our Masonic journey thus far we have obligated ourselves quite sufficiently. However, we are hoping that during our ceremonies and fellowship we will reflect on our past Masonic experiences and renew our commitments that we have made to each other and to our creator. We also hope to reflect on one of the most personal events that we will each need to face in our life and that is our death. Structure:
The structure, as well as the ceremonies and events, are set up to accommodate the lifestyles of the younger generations and others that labor and interact in this fast paced informational society. There will be:
No formal dues
No formal business meetings
An informal structure
A chapter for each District
A District Coordinator and events team for each chapter
A Scottish Rite degree that each Chapter will be responsible for a kickoff event for each district
A set minimum number of convenient events required for each chapter on an annual basis
A requirement to wear your BOR shirt at each event
Scottish Rite toast will be required to be used at each of our
regular events
Main objectives:
To encourage participation in our Districts of Scottish Rite brothers in fun and enlightening events and to further promote our ICE initiative set for by Supreme Council.
To spend more time sharing fellowship in the eyes of the public than in the privacy of our facilities to showcase our great Fraternity, it’s members and events. In doing so we hope to attract new membership opportunities.
To volunteer services to work with not only our Masonic organizations, but also other organizations and fraternities in our community (exposure).
And also to breathe life and encourage engagement into the current membership by doing something completely different! If we are to be so fortunate as to find someone desirous knocking on the door of Freemasonry; it will be our obligation as Brothers of the Right to make sure we have representatives to mentor and participate in his initiating, passing, raising, and support of him in all of his Masonic undertakings hoping that someday he will desire to join Scottish Rite and BOR. Each member of the BOR will also be responsible to be familiar with all of the items listed above to be able to communicate key information to non-members as to the purposes and general description of our organization. Each member will also need to contemplate, understand, and communicate the symbolism of our Logo for your own guidance, as well as if called upon by someone curious about the meaning and significance of the particulars; you will be able to be conversant on such matters. Major communications will be electronic and through various forms of social media. There will be no snail mail. We are hoping to roll this out to the other Valleys within the State and eventually on a jurisdictional level if successful.
