Dr. Jerome-Zapadka is honored to serve on the Scientific and Clinical Advisory Committee for the Coalition for Metabolic Health. The Coalition supports the new 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which place a stronger focus on whole foods from both plant and animal sources. The guidelines recognize protein as an important part of a healthy diet, recommend less sugar and refined carbohydrates, and reduce the suggested amount of grains.

The Coalition also applauds the inclusion of therapeutic low-carbohydrate options for people with chronic disease. This is an approach Dr. Zapadka used in her own clinical practice for several years to help reverse metabolic fatty liver disease (MASLD). These updates are based on decades of scientific and clinical research and are an important step toward improving metabolic health across the country.

As we wrap up our first year of practice at THP, we’re celebrating what matters most—real people changing their trajectories.

Meet Steve. Just 5 months into his journey, his progress is a powerful example of what’s possible with a personalized, metabolic-focused approach.

After presenting with fatty liver disease and metabolic syndrome, Steve adopted a very low-carbohydrate nutrition plan, increased aerobic and resistance training, and stayed committed to the process.

Who better than Stan Zapadka, an engineer, to come out of retirement to become our Certified Velacur Technician! This amazing and economical technology can both diagnose and stage fatty liver disease. This becomes especially important in patients with type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, high triglycerides, and obesity.. If you have any one of these, you are at high risk to have fatty liver disease, and to have the more advanced type which puts you at risk for progressive liver disease. Fatty liver disease is now a leading cause for liver transplantation. You may not have any symptoms, which is why it is so important to be screened for this potentially devastating disease.

We reached another milestone this week at Trajectory Health Partners!

When we opened our practice, one of our goals was to be a hub for education for students and practitioners, regarding Therapeutic Carbohydrate Reduction. We hosted a student who recently received her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition. She had the opportunity to learn about fatty (steatotic) liver disease, insulin resistance and Metabolic Syndrome, and the unique nutritional needs of these patients to reverse rather than " manage" these diseases. She also had an opportunity to learn about the importance of health coaching to implement the behaviors needed for long-term success, the Velacur liver scan to not only diagnose and stage fatty liver, but to also follow this to document its resolution, and the importance of a sophisticated Body Composition Analysis to assure that patients are making impact on fat mass and visceral fat, while maintaining or gaining muscle mass. We had such a great morning together, and are ready to open our doors to further students.
