Tri-County CIT

Tri-County CIT Familiarize the public with the Tri-County Crisis Intervention Team and its mission.

The crisis intervention team (CIT) is an innovative police based first responder program of pre-arrest jail diversion for those in a mental illness crisis. This program provides law enforcement based crisis intervention training for helping those individuals with mental illness. Involvement in CIT is voluntary and based in the patrol division of the police department. In addition, CIT works in partnership with those in mental health care to provide a system of services that is friendly to the individuals with mental illness, family members, and the police officer. If you or someone you love is having a mental health crisis or emergency, call 911 immediately!

ALERT: Recent increase in fatal drug overdoses in the northeast section of Lansing and Lansing Township

ICHD Press Release:https://docs.ingham.org/ICHD_%20Reports%20Increase%20in%20Overdose%20Fatalities_%20Final.pdf

ICHD urges community members to take immediate precautions and to access life-saving resources, supplies, and supports. To prevent further overdose fatalities, the following actions are highly encouraged:

1. Get Free Narcan: More than 20 locations in Ingham County provide free Narcan (naloxone), an opioid overdose reversal medication. A map of these locations can be found at http://inghamharmreduction.org/support

2. Test Your Drugs: Individuals are encouraged to test their substances for fentanyl and xylazine. Free test strips are available from Punks with Lunch at 1300 Eureka St., Lansing, Michigan, Monday through Friday, from 12 PM to 5 PM. For more information, contact Punks with Lunch at 419-405-1308 or email punkswithlunchlansing@gmail.com

3. Go Slow & Stay Low: Go Slow & Stay Low: If you or someone you know is using substances, do so slowly and in smaller amounts. The Never Use Alone Hotline (877-696-1996) is a free hotline someone can call so they don’t use drugs alone. An operator will stay on the line to monitor safety. If a person becomes unresponsive, the operator will call 9-1-1 on their behalf

4. Administer Narcan & Perform Rescue Breaths: In the event of a suspected overdose, immediately administer Narcan and perform rescue breaths. Instructions for performing rescue breaths:
• Clear the person’s airway.
• Tilt the person’s head back, pinch their nose closed, and place your mouth over theirs to create a seal.
• Give two slow breaths, watching for the chest to rise. Follow up with one breath every 5 seconds.

5. Connect with Peer Recovery Coaches: The ICHD supports harm reduction efforts through Peer Recovery Coaches who help people access clean needles, pipes, test strips and Narcan. Peer Recovery Coaches also connect individuals to Medication-Assisted Treatment providers, medically-assisted detox providers, and build recovery supports.
