Transition
"There is a phase in labor, appropriately called transition, where a woman will meet her breaking point. She'll feel as though she just can't go on, and she is right. The maiden in her is not strong enough for the task at hand. It's during this time the maiden dies so that the woman can be reborn as a mother, with her child. A new, more capable version of herself with far more strength than she has ever known. From Maiden to Mother." -Oh Baby Nutrition
📌 Transition is the final dilation of the cervix, between 8-10 cm (some define it as 7-10 cm)
📌 It is the most intense, but fastest part of labor, which usually makes you go into an altered state of consciousness and can cause you to become "out of character"
📌 Mom might say things such as "I want to go home"
📌 Contractions can become back to back, irregular, have peaks, or might even stall for a period of time
📌 Some physical signs include perspiration, goosebumps, shakes or tremors, hot or cold flashes, flushed cheeks, nausea and vomiting
📌 Simple encouragement and keeping the mom in their primal birthing reflex is best during this time. Rationalizing can bring a person out of their primal reflex and disrupt the flow of labor
