What an inspiring day walking together in support of the multiple sclerosis community here in South Texas. Events like this remind us that when patients, families, healthcare teams, and community leaders unite, we can make a meaningful impact.

A sincere thank you to the South Texas Multiple Sclerosis Council for organizing this incredible event, and to all the sponsors (DHR Health, Biogen, Novartis, Genentech, Bristol Myers Squibb, BRIUMVI® (ublituximab-xiiy)), volunteers, patients, pharma, and families who helped make it possible. Your support strengthens our mission to improve awareness, access to care, and support for people living with MS.

Together, we keep moving forward. 💪

Yesterday I was in Hidalgo County filming with Roberto Alejandro Cruz, M.D. for The Long Goodbye, my upcoming documentary on Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

Dr. Cruz is board-certified in Neurology and the only fellowship-trained neuro-immunologist and multiple sclerosis specialist in the region. With his addition to the DHR Health Neurology Institute and Infusion Center, the Rio Grande Valley now has access to some of the latest disease-modifying therapies for neurological conditions right here at home.

His training spans neuroimmunology, neuro-ophthalmology, and MS research. He completed his medical degree at Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas, a neuro-ophthalmology research fellowship in Houston, a neurology residency at LSU Health Sciences Center where he served as Chief Resident, and a second fellowship in neuroimmunology and multiple sclerosis at Dell Medical School in Austin.

But today wasn’t just about credentials.

It was about the future.

Every time I go deeper into this subject and sit across from professionals like Dr. Cruz, I leave with something I didn’t expect when I first began this journey: hope.

Hope that earlier detection is improving.
Hope that science is advancing.
Hope that prevention is becoming part of the conversation.
Hope that families may not have to face this alone forever.

Alzheimer’s and dementia are complex. They touch nearly every family in America in some way. But the more I learn, the more I see that brilliant minds are working tirelessly behind the scenes to change the trajectory of this disease.

The Long Goodbye is not just about loss.

It is also about progress.

And today reminded me that the future of brain health may look very different than the past.

Proud to present our poster at ACTRIMS 2026, “Treatment pathways, switching, and barriers to disease-modifying therapies in a Hispanic cohort of NMOSD,” alongside our incredible team.

This work reflects what many see every day in our communities: delays in access, treatment transitions, and systemic barriers that disproportionately affect Hispanic/Latino patients living with NMOSD.

Grateful that this project aligns closely with the mission of Latino Alliance for Neuroimmunology — advancing equity, representation, and culturally responsive neuroimmunology care through research and advocacy.

Team science in service of our patients.
