Early in life, I found rocks and gems to be somewhat interesting. Mom's jewelry, small and delicate yet stunning, delighted me. A neighbor gifted me jewelry, as he discovered tumbling, polishing, and setting of small gem stones. One Christmas, in my 30's, two dear friends gifted me a stunning slab of Rhodochrosite. I remember opening the gift thinking, "they gave me a rock?,"
Simultaneously I felt this explosion in my chest, the look on my friends faces indicated surprise and before I knew what was happening, tears were streaming down my face. I did not know it at the time, I had experienced a "heart opening." Shortly after this experience, I was receiving a healing session. At the close of the session in casual conversation, the healer asked me what the rest of my day looked like. Sitting on the edge of the healing table, the words. "It's time for me to start acquiring crystals" came out of my mouth. This experience was quite unusual for me at the time......I had no conscious pre-thought of such words nor interest. The word "acquiring" was not commonly used in my vocabulary. The sound of my voice was not one I had ever experienced before. The flow of energy within me as I spoke these words was nothing I had ever known. That day I started acquiring, studying, learning and engaging with crystals. I realized that they are a very important part of what I am here for - each crystal I brought home had my full attention. Totally geeked up with a light and magnifying head gear, I would sit with the stones, study their terrain, notice the subtle patterns, note their organic shapes, their diverse colors and their structure. In these spontaneous sessions, I kept thinking, how magnificent, how diverse, how beautiful!
