Akasha Hines is a doula and childbirth educator. She is passionate about educating and empowering women to have their best birth. I see so many women with a massive heart for birth get their certification over a weekend, only to feel totally lost the first time a client asks a “why” question.

Don’t get me wrong. Holding a mother’s hand and knowing where to apply pressure during a contraction is vital. We cover that as well. But if you want to be a great doula, the kind who truly anchors a room, you have to be an expert in the “why.”

When the hospital staff starts talking about the “cascade of interventions,” or your client is feeling the pressure of a 33% cesarean rate, she doesn’t just need a hand to hold. She needs you to have the knowledge to help her navigate those choices.

That’s exactly why our Doula certification at Birth Restored is a dual program. I want you to be a Certified Childbirth Educator first.
