The Adaptive Cycling Foundation Launches Campaign on United Airlines’ New Miles Crowdsourcing Platform
MileagePlus members can now donate miles to support the manufacturing and supplying of one-of-a-kind adapted bicycles to Wounded, Ill and Injured Service Members through United’s Miles on a Mission Platform
MECHANICSBURG, Ohio – Today, The Adaptive Cycling Foundation (ACF) announces that MileagePlus members can now donate their miles to help provide travel to the Heroes we support to visit our facility for custom design and fit consultations for their one-of-a-kind bicycles. United chose ACF as one of the first campaigns for its brand-new Miles on a Mission crowdfunding platform. Through Miles on a Mission, MileagePlus members can use their miles for good and contribute to campaigns that help support communities in need.
The Adaptive Cycling Foundation is aiming to raise 300,000 miles to fly Heroes to their facilities to custom design and fit their one-of-a-kind bicycles and travel to our events. These miles will help support ACF’s broader mission of supplying adapted bicycles for injured service members and first responders, or Heroes. ACF gives Heroes who cannot ride a normal bike due to mobility restrictions, limb loss, balance issues and any other restrictions caused by their injuries, a tool to help recover mentally and physically that they can use in their everyday lives. To help The Adaptive Cycling Foundation reach this goal, United will match the first 50,000 miles earned for this campaign.
“The Adapted Bicycles that we provide to improve the wellbeing of our Veteran and Active Duty Service Members and First Responders most often requires a unique individual fitting and consultation,” said Scott Moro, founder and mechanic, Adaptive Cycling Foundation, “The miles from the Miles on a Mission campaign helps us provide travel for these Heroes to ACF’s Adaptive Workshop to design and fit these bikes. The miles will also help provide travel to events we provide and support, plus allow our staff to travel to these Heroes when required, ensuring our service is provided at zero cost with the most impact.”
Miles on a Mission is a part of United’s Every Action Counts pledge, which aims to connect people, unite the world and serve communities by putting people and planes to work for the greater good. Eligible charities can apply for the chance to launch a 28-day campaign to raise miles that help them deliver on their missions through travel.
“We want to make a difference in the communities where our customers and employees live, work and fly,” said Sharon Grant, vice president and chief community engagement officer at United Airlines. “Miles on a Mission not only allows us to connect with even more organizations than before but also gives our customers a new way to use their miles in a way that supports the charities and causes that mean the most to them.”
