Earlier this week, The Boston Globe published a letter from our CEO Joseph McDonough in response to the paper’s editorial on regulating home care workers. In his Letter to the Editor, McDonough highlights why stronger safeguards are important – especially critical for behavioral health patients.

“Licensing, training, and oversight are essential protections, particularly for patients with significant medical, behavioral, and social complexities,” McDonough wrote. “Without well trained and certified clinicians, these individuals face a higher risk of preventable hospitalizations, poor outcomes, and fragmented care.”

He also emphasized the urgency for lawmakers to act, noting that undertrained caregivers place additional strain on hospitals and the broader healthcare system. Strengthening standards in home care is a necessary step to protect vulnerable patients and improve outcomes across the Commonwealth.

As part of a recent interview with the Home Health Care News team for their excellent Disrupt Podcast — our CEO Joseph McDonough discussed how Innovive Health is addressing the growing behavioral health crisis with home-based care across multiple states while delivering savings across the healthcare system and better outcomes to our patients.

“We estimate that our services save up to $200,000 to $250,000 per patient in Massachusetts, about $135,000 per patient in Iowa, and about $200,000 per patient in Colorado. Our program significantly reduces hospitalizations and ED utilization as well. We really create a much better quality of life for the patients, as well as creating significant cost savings for our Medicaid plans and our payer sources,” said McDonough.

He also shared his insight into how Innovive Health continues to scale and grow our innovative care model by engaging in value-based arrangements with our payer partners while working to establish data-sharing arrangements with “visionary” managed care programs to better determine what drives positive and negative patient outcomes.

National Influenza Vaccination Week is a reminder that flu season is far from over, and there is still time to protect yourself and your community.

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases notes that getting vaccinated now can still reduce your risk of illness, lower the severity if you do get sick, and help safeguard vulnerable populations. Patients living with multiple comorbidities and complex mental health conditions face higher risks during flu season, as illness can more easily lead to complications that disrupt stability and overall health.
