"Students from Medical Lake Elementary School take a walk through a nature area east of the school with signs to be placed at the entry. Patsy Cogswell is shown with her fifth grade class." -- The Spokesman Review, April 25th, 1990

It's a little hard to orient from this picture, but I think that the Middle School would be off to the right in this photo. A current picture of the sign is in the comments!

"Brandon Gonwick, 4, gets help unhooking a trout from his fishing line after making his second catch of the day at West Medical Lake. Brandon and hundreds of other fishermen lined the shore and floated in boats at the lake Sunday, which was the opening day of fishing season." (The Spokane Chronicle, April 24th, 1990)

100 years ago in Medical Lake, the city council was still fighting as WR Bartholomew sued Stanley Hallett. Also, a kid in Oakesdale found a giant mushroom! (The Spokane Chronicle, June 19th, 1925, page 11)

100 years ago and a day in Medical Lake, Major Jack Fancher took off in a plane from Hoisington Field (later renamed Felts Field) and landed at his ranch in Fancher Prairie so that he could check in on the farm. (The Spokane Chronicle, June 18th, 1925)

The front page of the Spokane Press on June 18th, 1925 was a dandy--dope fiends near Lewis and Clark High School! Adventurer Raold Amundsen returned safe from the Arctic, but a farmer near Cheney named Frank Craigo took his own life after he became depressed over the death of cave explorer Floyd Collins. Fighting Bob La Follette, the progressive senator of Wisconsin, died at the age of 70, and J.P. Morgan's wife was also not long for the world.

(And there, in the middle of the page, the Swedes were getting ready to have a picnic at Medical Lake)

100 years ago in Pullman, George Meneninger was found insane because of an obsession with making gasoline from sunflower seeds; also, he liked to peep in windows on College Hill. He was promptly sent off to the hospital at Medical Lake. (The Spokane Chronicle, June 13th, 1925).

If you're wondering if George may have just been a man ahead of his time, maybe! https://farm-energy.extension.org/sunflowers-for-biofuel-production/

100 Years ago in Medical Lake, A.F. Hunts (owner of the dance hall at Camp Comfort) and the City Council came to an agreement to end dancing on Sundays. If I was a better liar I would tell you this was the basis for the movie Footloose, but no such luck. (The Spokane Daily Chronicle, June 9th, 1925, page 11)
