💛 Feeling Low This Holiday Season? Here Are Therapist-Approved Tips to Support Your Mood 💛
The holidays can bring joy—but also loneliness, stress, and emotional overwhelm. If you’ve been feeling more down than usual, here are a few therapy-based strategies that can help lighten the load:
✨ 1. Set Realistic Expectations
You don’t have to feel “happy” just because it’s the holidays. Give yourself permission to have whatever feelings show up.
✨ 2. Create a Small Daily Routine
Depression thrives in lack of structure. Try a simple routine: morning light, hydration, a 10-minute walk, and one meaningful task each day.
✨ 3. Practice “Opposite Action” (DBT Skill)
When you feel the urge to withdraw completely, gently choose the opposite behavior—send a text, step outside, or attend a small activity. Tiny steps count.
✨ 4. Limit Emotional Triggers
The holidays can bring up grief, family conflict, and old wounds. Set boundaries with people who drain you and intentionally spend time with people who feel safe.
✨ 5. Stay Connected
Depression loves isolation. Reach out to at least one person each day—even if it’s brief. Connection keeps the heaviness from growing.
✨ 6. Schedule Joy in Small Doses
You don’t need big events to lift your mood. Try simple comforts: warm drinks, cozy lights, uplifting music, or a favorite movie.
✨ 7. Give Yourself Extra Compassion
If you feel yourself struggling, talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone you love. You deserve gentleness—especially now.
✨ 8. Consider Talking With a Therapist
Sometimes the best gift you can give yourself is support. Therapy can help you process tough emotions, build coping skills, and rediscover hope during a difficult season.
You’re not alone—and you don’t have to navigate the holidays by yourself.
If you need support, we’re here for you. 💛
