In 2025, Le Bonheur's trauma team cared for 143 patients with non-accidental traumas. The injuries ranged from brain injuries, fractures in the skull, arms, spine and legs to burns. The patients spanned across all ethnicities and races. A large portion of the patients were less than a year old. For the past three years, we have seen a steady increase in patients treated for abuse at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.

We are often left wondering, was there a point at which someone could have intervened? A relative? A friend? A neighbor? Reporting suspected abuse is mandated by law. But can we do better as a community? Research shows that promoting healthy families helps prevent child maltreatment.
