Being:Art was founded by artists/teachers Anne J. Froning and Sean Murphy. Our mission is to foster Creativity and expression are not priceless.

Being:Art is one of the few companies in the Unites States creating musical instruments for permanent outdoor installation. Our instruments are designed for ease of play by the non-musician and musician alike and they are highlighted as a unique piece of craft-art in outdoor classrooms across the country. The designs and material choices (including sustainably harvested hardwoods) must withstand t

he rigors of existing in an outdoor environment for years with a minimum amount of maintenance. Our first installation was installed in 2006 at the Arbor Day Farm’s Nature Explore Classroom in Nebraska City, NE and is still played by thousands every year! The service branch of Being:Art is unique because of our fusion of multiple art forms. These combinations include dance, music, design, yoga, craft, film, theatre, etc. Our performances, workshops, classes, and residencies seek to inspire others to find and develop their own creativity and self-fulfillment. Energy, time, love, and money are all needed to bring creative ideas to fruition!

A few months back Being:Art obtained a truckload of Honduran Mahogany cutoffs and over the course of a couple months turned a small portion of it into this table for our family!

We have another table in the works and countertops for our house planned but we’re also taking commissions! We have a lot of this wood as well as many other woods available to us. If you’ve ever wanted an heirloom quality handmade table (or some other piece of furniture) reach out to us and we’d be happy to discuss options with you!

Pretty incredible to revisit our public installations occasionally. Today the Zylobench & Zylorqble at V&E Greenline got the newly redesigned mallets (designed in collaboration with ) and I got a chance to sit & play with the instruments.

They still look and sound amazing after 11 years outdoors in a public space in Memphis!

One of the most difficult aspects of building marimbas & xylophones for public outdoor spaces has always been mallets! Early on we produced them ourselves with minimal success.

About a year ago through an introduction by we began working with to develop new mallets for our instruments. Now when you buy one of our instruments you’ll get a nice set of their mallets as part of the purchase.

But there are still those special situations where you need something truly strong to stand up to daily unsupervised public use by thousands of kids and adults.

Today I installed the latest iteration of what we hope ends up being the perfect mallet for public installations. It’s a collaborative mallet between dragonfly & being:art. Silicone head with a solid aluminum shaft, a heavyweight lifting eyebolt with an industrial threadlocker attached to 3/16” stainless steel aircraft cable!

It’s on the Zylobench at Rainbow Lake Playground. Please go check it out, take the kiddos, use the mallet and play the instrument. Let’s see if this is THE mallet!

Hey Memphis: our musical installations in town are growing and improvements are happening on some of the already existing installations!

Rainbow Lake Playground is being renovated and our newly redesigned Zylobench is being incorporated into the design! Not sure when it’ll be installed so keep an eye out…

Also, 2 of our other in town installations now have our new and improved mounted mallets we developed in collaboration with The V&E Greenline (pics 3&4) have the original Zylobench & Zylotable as well as several installations at The Big Backyard Both of these installations have the new mallets.

Please go check them out, play around on the instruments, let us know how you like the improvements, and tag us in your photos/videos!

Today we’re working on our mounted mallet design.

When we’ve made these in the past we’ve had a lot of reports of the mallets being torn free and lost. So we’ve decided to dramatically bulk up the design:
