Friendly reminder from Raye the Doula at www.rayethedoula.com that your baby’s arrival date should not be based off your provider’s holiday plans! It seems as if providers would rather a more predictable schedule, and while I get it- this is problematic. Mamas please know:
⚠️ Your EDD is a estimate!!!! 39 weeks is considered “full term.” It’s not uncommon for moms to go over 40 weeks, especially first time moms.
⚠️ I know the end of the third trimester can be hard, but those last few weeks are vital in lung development and as your baby build up strength to feed effectively!
⚠️ Most of the time, when your baby is ready to come, their mature lungs will signal labor to begin.
⚠️ Unnecessary inductions (inductions because a provider is traveling, ready for a mom to deliver, anything that’s not medically needed) are adding stress to mom AND baby.
⚠️ Inductions are often the beginning to the cascade of events that lead to “emergency” c-sections.... 🗣 BECAUSE BABY WASNT READY TO BE BORN! You know like when Pitocin is give to induce 👉🏾 causes issues in fetal heart rate 👉🏾 cesarean because the baby’s heart rate drops?
Moral of this story, if you are due now thru January 1... do your due diligence. Educate yourself and have a doula- even if it’s virtual! Don’t get pressured into delivering early for someone else’s “convenience!”
