The Power of a Thank You

Why is it so hard for people to say “thank you”? Something as simple as holding a door open or letting a car merge in bumper-to-bumper traffic often goes unnoticed. Even a quick wave of acknowledgment, something that takes a second, seems too much for many people.

I find myself bothered when I go out of my way to do something kind for a stranger and they don’t show any appreciation. Is it that difficult to say thanks? Yet so many people don’t. Still, no matter how aggravated I get, I’ll keep opening doors and letting cars in, even if nothing changes. Maybe only one out of three people will appreciate it and show a sign of thanks, but that one reminder of kindness makes it worth it. As for the other two, they’ll just make me laugh, because I’ll be thinking, well, I guess the world needs its as****es too.

I don’t think many realize just how far a simple “thank you” can go.
