One of my favorite grounding techniques is the 5-4-3-2-1! Here's how it works:
Find 5 things you can see
Find 4 things you can touch
Find 3 things you can hear
Find 2 things you can smell
Find 1 thing you can taste

You can also do different variations. For instance, since I can't smell, I'll change it to 2 things I am grateful for.

The concept of grounding is essentially to distract your brain from the anxious thoughts by bringing you back into the present. Anxiety is generally future focused and not present focused so we have to bring ourselves back to the present moment.

We can love others with boundaries! Often we think that we really aren't loving others when setting boundaries however boundaries are just one of the many ways we show love. Boundaries often get a bad rep because we think of walls and not fences. Boundaries are how I teach people how to treat me and vice versa.

A great book to check out is called Boundaries by Dr.'s Cloud and Townsend. I highly recommend it!

This is one of my favorite illustrations of all time!

Oftentimes, we set huge goals for ourselves. There is nothing wrong with huge goals but we often forget that there are a million little steps to reach our huge goal. People tend to be more successful when they create small, obtainable goals.

For instance, in weight-loss people often say, "I want to lose 50 lbs!" This is a great goal, but if I "only" lose 2 lbs this week, I'm going to be super discouraged that I didn't lose 50. Instead, if I set my first goal at 5 lbs, that is much more realistic. It may take me 2 or 3 weeks to reach 5 lbs lost but the point is that I will reach it. Then I build up from there with my next goal being 10 lbs, 15 lbs, and so on! I then build on that momentum and after some time I have hit my goal. Sure, times of disappointment or discouragement may still occur but a 5 lb goal feels way more achievable than a 50 lb goal.
