One of my favorite grounding techniques is the 5-4-3-2-1! Here's how it works:
Find 5 things you can see
Find 4 things you can touch
Find 3 things you can hear
Find 2 things you can smell
Find 1 thing you can taste
You can also do different variations. For instance, since I can't smell, I'll change it to 2 things I am grateful for.
The concept of grounding is essentially to distract your brain from the anxious thoughts by bringing you back into the present. Anxiety is generally future focused and not present focused so we have to bring ourselves back to the present moment.
