Looking for a fun + affordable Easter activity while supporting your child’s language development? 🐰🪺

This one is for 👏🏻 Y-O-U 👏🏻

Here’s a fun activity we did in our house. $1 Easter buckets + a few packs of stickers = so much FUN! 🫟

So many opportunities to model language…

For my 1 year old:
🔹 On
🔹 Off
🔹 Help
🔹 More
🔹 Stuck
🔹 Uh Oh
🔹 In
🔹 animal sounds (for the puppy & kitty stickers)
🔹 peek a boo (hiding behind the bucket)

For my 3 year old:
🔸 using longer phrases like “I need help. Mom will you help me? It’s stuck!”
🔸 getting creative! (Stickers on, under, and inside the bucket 🤪)
🔸 promoting independence ➡️ taking time, pausing, and trying to take the sticker backs off without help
🔸 chances to be a big helper + work on social skills (turn taking, sharing, praising ➡️ “here you go, it’s your turn, way to go!”)
🔸 using descriptive language (big, small, sparkly, blue, green one, etc.)

The best thing about language… it’s 🌟EVRYWHERE🌟

We are now offering a new service: weighed feedings!

If you're a breastfeeding parent and are looking to see how your little one is transferring milk, this one is for you! Each weighed feed is $20 for 30-40 minutes of time including a pre and post feed weight.

Included in your visit: a FREE feeding/swallowing screening. If any concerns are identified, you will receive a recommendation about who you should see next.. a lactation consultant, feeding therapist, a bodywork specialist, etc.

What this visit is:
✅ A way to find out how much milk your baby transfers at breast over a period of time, sensitive to 2 grams
✅ A supportive environment to identify if there's a need for additional help on your feeding journey

What this visit is not:
🚫 A feeding evaluation
🚫 A lactation appointment

Let's talk ✨PREVENTION ✨ when it comes to alternate nutrition.. aka tube feedings.

A few weeks back we celebrated tube feeding awareness, but then I had this thought.. At Olive Branch Feeding Therapy, we oftentimes see kids who are at RISK for needing a feeding tube, and work with families to try and PREVENT getting the tube altogether (if that is in the best interest of the baby + family of course)!

If you are spending time:
- waking your child to feed
- going to the doctor for weight checks
- calculating every drop your child takes in a day
- spending longer than 20 minutes bottle feeding to "get" your child to eat
- triple feeding for weeks on end
- navigating spit ups

Then please, please, reach out for a more sustainable approach and support while feeding your little one. 🫶

Surprisingly enough, eating is a COMPLEX process and includes:
👉 ~30 pairs of muscles
👉 5 cranial nerves
👉 coordinating breathing + swallowing (aka closing your airway at the precise timing to swallow safely)
👉 time to adjust to this big world after being nourished + protected in utero for many months
👉 practice for those who maybe haven't been orally eating from the get go
