in Miami Goddess by .sawh..San Andres, Colombia is known for its diverse wildlife, famous beaches and simplicity of lifestyle. Irie, is a native of these lands, and her demeanor displays the same simple elegance as her homeland. When asked how hot yoga became an integral part of her life Irie responded, “Pure chance! I saw the hot yoga studio, tried it and have never stopped since! I feel yoga has transformed me emotionally more than anything and from there has grown my strength physically and mentally. The practice is where I gain my emotional balance and increase my awareness and mindfulness. On a day to day basis, it helps my overall posture, raising my confidence.” Irie currently practices hot yoga in the Miami area, but has not forgotten where her passion for creative movement originated. Culturally, Colombia is known for its creative dance and unique rhythm, and Irie claims that this aspect of her culture is what she continues to resonate with the most. ... “I feel deeply connected to the vision that .sawh upholds because of its mission of empowering women from all walks of life. Originally born in Richmond Virginia, my heritage is a unique blend of cultures and spiritual traditions which I continue to explore and practice. My ancestry is a blend of African American, Seminole Native American, and Jamaican and Cuban roots. During recent years, interest in my heritage has intensified, initiating research on the indigenous traditions of my ancestors. Learning about the significance of my heritage has provided the opportunity to simultaneously honor those who have walked before me whilst accepting the unique person I have become. I strive to adopt the same posture that my ancestors exhibited, by humbling myself to a higher power. Personally, yoga serves as an opportunity for me to become completely aligned with the present moment, serving as a moving prayer through my body. Discovering hot yoga has provided the opportunity for me to embrace all aspects of myself spiritually, mentally and physically. Throughout my practice, I strive to focus my mind, body and spirit in order to be able to access my heart on a deeper level. The most important internal shift hot yoga has initiated within me is to focus and still the mind, in order to allow my actions, thoughts and intentions to flow directly from my heart.”
