1 week to go until my 18th consecutive 🎉 wow I’ve been coming out here for a long time! Next weekend I’ll be racing the half marathon with 20,000 other runners. You all probably know this is my favorite race — the course, the weather, the post race festivities are all so perfect :) since I slacked off a bit during my travels and then have been sick this past week, I don’t really have a goal right now, but I also don’t want to just take it easy 😆 I’ll decide as it gets closer once I see I’m feeling 100% better from this cold.

I had to narrow down my years here to just a handful of photos: 2024, 2017, 2022, 2018, 2020, & 2019 🏃🏻‍♀️

Anyone else racing Miami?!

Yeah it was ideal long run weather out there today (40s in Miami!), but I chose to grind it out on the treadmill 🫠 I still have an annoying cough and I know the cold temps would have made it worse, so indoors it was!

The original plan was 14 miles but my cough was driving me nuts (and probably everyone else in the gym), so obv pushing out more miles would have been a silly decision. 90 mins was plenty in the bank for today 💰

👟 I needed to share my long run shoes because there’s nothing better and everyone needs to try these out - Neo Vista 2 (and I love the 1s also a tad bit more!)

🍬🧂 Fuel was a handful of gummy clusters + salt tabs at 25 and 55 mins (yep, even though I’m not running outside in the heat, I still take these because I sweat a ton on the treadmill!)

I’m debating whether to take a day off tomorrow (along with Sunday) or keep my short, easy run on the schedule — seems like running is delaying my cough from going away 😭 we’ll see.

What’s your long run like this week?

Proof that runners don’t all look the same 🙅🏻‍♀️ There’s no one way to do this. I sometimes feel like an outsider in the running community when I see some of the common habits on social media lol but I’ve done great with my training all these years without changing any of these 🤠

9pm bedtime? Never gonna happen. I know it’s terrible to glue your eyes to the TV at night but it’s my thing and I love it. I’ll shut it off usually between 10 and 11pm.

That leads me to why I don’t run at the crack of dawn. I do usually try to wake up at 6am but I take my time in the morning having coffee, checking emails, creating these posts, etc. so start time some days isn’t even until like 10am 😆

I don’t care for a no-alcohol life. I tried dry January once and it changed nothing in my life—not my energy, sleep, running progress, skin…zero effect. And I love my wine and occasional martinis, so that’s it 💃🏻

I never understood the love some runners have for Strava. I’m not sure what it would do for me so I’ve never had an interest. Is it just a way to be nosey about other people’s training details? I’m clueless.

Solo runs are my jam. I run late so I know no one else in hot Miami would run in the middle of the morning until noon or later sometimes, so that plays a role in my solo runner life. Once in a while I’ll join the run club one evening or a running event but it’s never for my actual training runs.

Okieeee, enough about me! Your turn 👉🏼 what’s one uncommon habit you have as a runner?

Am I going to be so sore tomorrow? Probably. Am I going to love it? 100% yes 😃 I went for a speed workout today and it felt like I hadn’t ran fast in a year lol—it’s really only been a couple of weeks but the time away from actual ‘training’ sure does feel like I got so out of shape. I’m reminding myself that this always happens and I end up feeling much better after this first week back 🙃

I plugged in a fartlek workout in my coros and did what I could 👊🏼 I also did a pretty heavy glute workout after this so yeah, I’ll be feeling this all tomorrow 😅

Anyway, it’s a new year and I’ve got fast running and firm glutes on the goal line!
👉🏼 What are you working on?
