This case reflects one of the most common and preventable issues we see in aesthetic surgery today: well-intentioned patients guided toward procedures their doctors are not fully qualified to perform.

This patient received a chin implant from a doctor who described himself as “double board-certified.” In reality, those certifications were in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) and ENT facial plastic surgery not in plastic surgery or craniofacial surgery. The implant did little to correct his severe retrusion in both vertical and horizontal dimensions.

At The Maercks Institute, we removed the implant and performed a true genioplasty advancing the patient’s own bone to create a balanced, confident, and naturally masculine lower face.

The most critical step in any aesthetic journey is not the operation itself it’s who is making the decision about what operation to perform.
