March is a good time to audit your supervision quality, not just your supervision quantity.

๐ŸŒฟ Ask yourself: "Is my supervisee measurably better because of my supervision?"

If the answer feels uncertain, that's your action item. ๐Ÿ“Œ

๐Ÿ” "How many times do I have to say it?!" If you've said this today, you're not failing, you've just accidentally trained your child that instructions are optional. Here's the fix.

In ABA, we call this "instruction following." And we know why repetition backfires:

When you repeat an instruction before the first one is followed, you're teaching your child to wait for repetition. The THIRD time becomes the real first time.

โœ… What to do instead:

1. Give ONE clear, calm instruction
2. Wait 5โ€“10 seconds (don't fill the silence)
3. If no response: use a physical or gestural prompt โ€” don't re-state
4. When they comply: reinforce immediately and specifically
5. Gradually fade prompts over time (this is errorless learning)

๐Ÿ“Œ The bonus: fewer instructions = more authority per instruction.

Your words gain power when you use them precisely. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ April. The honeymoon of the new year is over. Summer still feels far. If you're a therapist feeling worn thin, your nervous system is telling you something important.

Burnout in behavior analysts and therapists is often an extinction burst for our own wellbeing behaviors.

We poured reinforcement into clients all year. We forgot to schedule any for ourselves.

๐Ÿ”ฌ From a behavioral lens, burnout = a history of high response effort + low reinforcement density for the practitioner.

What would a behavior analyst prescribe for a client in extinction? They'd:
โ†’ Reduce response effort temporarily
โ†’ Increase rate of reinforcement
โ†’ Identify new motivating operations

Do that for YOURSELF this week.

Practical ideas:
๐ŸŒฟ Take a 10-min walk between sessions (break the chain)
๐Ÿ““ Write one thing you did well today (self-reinforcement)
๐Ÿค Reach out to a colleague (social reinforcement)
๐Ÿ“ต Hard stop on work at a set time (stimulus control)

You cannot pour from an empty cup. You ARE part of the treatment team. ๐Ÿ’›

Happy Friday! Before you head into the Easter weekend, we want to take a moment to celebrate something: YOU and everything your family has accomplished this spring.

Q1 of the school year is basically done. Spring is here. And whether you realize it or not, so much has happened.

Your child has learned things. Tried things. Surprised you. Made you proud in moments big and small.

And YOU have shown up, as a parent, a caregiver, a therapist, a teammate day after day.

That deserves to be celebrated. Not just noticed. Celebrated.

So before the Easter weekend kicks off, take a second and think about:

๐ŸŒธ One thing your child did this week that made you smile
โญ One moment you felt really proud of them
๐Ÿ’› One thing YOU did well this week

Write them down. Say them out loud. Tell someone.

Progress isn't always a big milestone. Sometimes it's quieter than that. And those quiet wins are worth just as much.

Happy Easter weekend, you've earned it. ๐Ÿฃโœจ

Drop your wins below, we want to celebrate WITH you! ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŒ Happy World Autism Day!
Today we celebrate every autistic person, and every single family walking alongside them.

The autism community is one of the most beautifully diverse communities there is. No two autistic people are the same. No two families look the same. And every single one of them belongs here.

Today we want to celebrate ALL of it:
๐Ÿ’™ The child who just said their first word at age 7, and the parent who has been cheering them on every single day waiting for that moment

๐Ÿ’™ The nonspeaking teen who communicates through a device and has more to say than most people realize

๐Ÿ’™ The caregiver who has learned an entirely new language of behavior, of signals, of small cues, to understand their child in a way nobody else can

๐Ÿ’™ The family who has built a whole life around loving someone whose needs are profound, and found more meaning in that life than they ever expected

๐Ÿ’™ The autistic adult living fully and independently, proving every day that the possibilities are wide open

๐Ÿ’™ The sibling who has grown into one of the most empathetic people in the room

๐Ÿ’™ The caregiver who is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, not because it's a job, but because that is their person and they would not have it any other way

Profound love looks different for every family. But it is love, deep, fierce, and real.

Today is for all of you. ๐ŸŒŸ

Drop a ๐Ÿ’™ and tell us who you're celebrating today.

Easter Sunday is just 3 days away!
๐Ÿฅš Easter weekend is almost here, and we have some really fun ideas to make your egg hunt something every child will love, talk about, and remember.
A few simple tweaks turn a good egg hunt into a GREAT one:

1๏ธโƒฃ Color-coded eggs for each child
Everyone gets their own color to find, same number of eggs, same amount of fun. No rushing, no comparing, just pure excitement.

2๏ธโƒฃ Surprise what's inside
Mix it up! Coins, stickers, small toys, jokes on slips of paper, activity ideas ("good for one trip to the ice cream shop!"). Half the fun is not knowing what you'll find.

3๏ธโƒฃ Create a treasure map
Draw a simple map of your yard or home and let your child follow it to find a special "golden egg" at the end. Total magic moment.

4๏ธโƒฃ Do a practice round the day before
Hide a few eggs Saturday and let them find those first, by Sunday they'll be absolute pros and SO proud of themselves.

5๏ธโƒฃ Celebrate every find
Make each egg a moment. Cheer, clap, high five. The joy of being celebrated is way better than the candy inside.

Easter is coming, and it's going to be so fun! ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿฃ

๐ŸŽ‰ April is almost here and that means it's Autism Acceptance Month! All month long, we're celebrating the autistic community, the families who love them, and the incredible humans supporting them every day.

This month is about more than awareness. It's about belonging. It's about showing up, celebrating differences, and building a world where every person is valued exactly as they are.

Here's what we'll be sharing all month:

๐ŸŒฑ Simple, practical tips for everyday life at home
๐Ÿ’› Stories and moments worth celebrating
๐Ÿค Ways to support your child's strengths, not just their goals
โœจ Reminders that YOU are doing an incredible job

Whether you've been in this community for years or just found us, welcome. This is a space built on kindness, curiosity, and a whole lot of love for the kids and families we serve.

We are so glad you're here. ๐Ÿ’™

Tell us: what does Autism Acceptance Month mean to YOUR family? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Teaching a neurodiverse classroom is one of the most creative, meaningful, and skilled jobs there is. And we want to share a few strategies that behavior specialists use every day that work just as beautifully in a classroom setting.
The best part? They work for every student, not just the ones with IEPs.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Post a visual schedule every single day
Knowing what comes next reduces anxiety and increases focus, for every child in the room. A simple written or picture schedule on the board can change the whole energy of a classroom morning.
๐ŸŒŸ Catch them being good, out loud and specifically
"Marcus, I noticed you went straight to your seat when you came in this morning. That was really responsible." Specific praise is more powerful than any consequence. Aim for four positive comments for every one correction.
โฑ๏ธ Give transition warnings
"In five minutes we're going to clean up and move to reading." That one sentence prevents more disruptions than almost anything else. Kids, especially kids who struggle with change, thrive when they can see what's coming.
๐ŸŽฏ Break big tasks into smaller steps
Instead of "write a paragraph," try "first, write your topic sentence. Just that one sentence. Show me when you're done." Smaller steps mean more success moments, and more success moments mean more confidence.
๐Ÿคซ Use quiet signals instead of public corrections
A private hand signal, a sticky note on the desk, a gentle tap, these redirect behavior without embarrassing a child in front of their peers. Dignity matters. A lot.
๐Ÿช‘ Build in movement
Every 20 minutes, find a reason for students to stand up, stretch, walk to the board, hand something out. Bodies that have moved are brains that can focus.
๐Ÿ’› Connect before you correct
When a student is dysregulated, a warm check-in before addressing the behavior goes a long way. "Hey, you okay today?" can open a door that a consequence never could.

Teachers, you are shaping so much more than academics. The way a child feels in your classroom stays with them for a very long time.
Thank you for everything you do. ๐ŸŽโœจ
Share this with a teacher who deserves to see it today ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ’— You are the most potent reinforcer in your child's world. Not the iPad. Not the snack. YOU. Here's what science says about that and what it means for this weekend.

Social reinforcement from a trusted caregiver is one of the most durable and generalized reinforcers we know of. And it's available to you 24/7, at no cost.

Here's the thing: it only works if you've built the relationship bank first.

This spring break, consider "pairingโ€, a concept from ABA where you become associated with good things BEFORE you start asking for compliance.

Simple ways to pair yourself this weekend:

๐ŸŒธ Sit with your child during a preferred activity, no redirecting
๐ŸŽฎ Join their world first, before inviting them into yours
๐Ÿ˜‚ Laugh together. Let them lead.
๐Ÿงƒ Deliver snacks without a demand attached
๐Ÿชด Do something outside together with zero agenda

When YOU are reinforcing, your instructions carry more weight. It's not dominance, it's relationship.

Happy Friday. Go enjoy your kid. ๐ŸŒŸ

03/26/2026

Generalization is the ability to use a skill across different people, places, materials, and situations. It doesn't happen automatically, it has to be programmed.

Why skills don't generalize:
โ†’ The skill was only trained in ONE setting (the clinic)
โ†’ Only ONE person delivered instruction
โ†’ The materials were always the same
โ†’ Reinforcement only happened there

โœ… How to build generalization from the start:

๐Ÿ  Vary the setting: practice at home, in stores, at parks
๐Ÿ‘ฅ Vary the people: teach with multiple adults
๐ŸŽฒ Vary the materials: use real objects, not just flashcards
๐ŸŒ€ Vary the sequence: don't always do skills in the same order
๐Ÿ“ฃ Involve parents from Day 1: they're the most important generalization agent

Spring = new environments every weekend. Use them purposefully. ๐ŸŒธ

They're the Foundation of Ethical Practice.

End of Q1 is supervision reflection time. If you're accruing hours for BCBA certification, or providing supervision to RBTs, this post is for you.

Effective supervision in ABA is not:
โŒ Watching data be collected
โŒ Answering questions in the hallway
โŒ Signing off on hours in bulk

Effective supervision IS:
โœ… Behavioral Skills Training (BST): instruct, model, rehearse, feedback
โœ… Direct observation with objective performance data
โœ… Regular meetings with an agenda and documented outcomes
โœ… Individualized professional development goals for each supervisee
โœ… Active attention to supervisee wellbeing and burnout indicators

March is a good time to audit your supervision quality, not just your supervision quantity.

๐ŸŒฟ Ask yourself: "Is my supervisee measurably better because of my supervision?"

If the answer feels uncertain, that's your action item. ๐Ÿ“Œ
