This is what I usually say about headstands and handstands. There are various ways of doing inversions without having to do these difficult Yoga asanas.

These are great goals to work towards, but are not essential in having a regular Yoga practice. 🙏🏽

Since I often say that Yoga is much more than just an exercise program, I sometimes get the response that it isn’t “real exercise” or people downplay it’s ability to help you loose weight by saying that you don’t get any cardio with Yoga.

Whenever I get this response, I invite the person to join me in just 10 of these movements.

This is the basic Vinyasa sequence from the Yoganaga that I practice. It consists of a group of asanas (Yoga poses) that are tied together in one movement.

There are about 11 asanas or movements tied together here;
1. Open in Prayer Pose
2. Pranayam
3. Diver Pose
4. Diver 2 Pose
5. Plank Pose
6. Upward Dog Pose
7. Cobra Pose
8. Back to Upward Dog
9. Downward Dog Pose
10. Jump into Hand to Foot Pose
11. Spring back to Prayer Pose, and repeat.

Anyone who has ever joined me after making that statement has always taken it back and shown respect for the vigor and burn of a dedicated Yoga practice.

At one point I’ve been able to do 100 of these vinyasas in under 30 minutes, as the warm up to my practice. Due to life circumstances I’ve fallen a bit behind in my asana practice over the last year, but I’ll be back to doing 100 of these daily soon.

This is not something that I practice at this pace or vigor with my new students, and we won’t be going quite this hard in my Yoga Baby Steps program, but I just wanted to demonstrate the levels of burn and “cardio” that are achievable in your living room with a focus and sincere Yoga Practice.

Thanks,
-Mike. ✨🙏🏽✨

One of the most common misconceptions about Yoga, is that you have to already have a physically fit body before you begin your journey.

People tend to forget that some of the great Yoga masters like BKS Iyengar began their personal journeys into Yoga as people with limited mobility that were able to help themselves with the power of Yoga.

Yoga has much greater benefits than just being an exercise program for body conditioning.

Yoga has medicinal and therapeutic qualities and can help heal many physical ailments.

Physical fitness is a beautiful byproduct of a sincere and dedicated Yoga practice, but it is absolutely not a requirement in order to begin.

It’s usually the ones who are most sick, who need the medicine the most.

Repost from
Who gave others authority over YOUR body?
Who created these silly “rules.”
Picture this: Aliens from outer space enter our world. They’re trying to learn the culture. We tell them: “Only certain bodies are allowed to wear bright colors and patterns. Bodies that are bigger must not dress comfortably per the temperature but in line with what will make others comfortable. Hair length must be longer if a body is bigger.” It’s okay to laugh at how inane these rules are (Not at the folks impacted by these rules). Engage with the absurdity of them and then consider what it might be like to break these so-called “rules.”
What are other body “rules” you’ve heard or felt confined by? What is one you’d like to work toward ignoring? Let us know below ⬇️
