So this is 40!

The last few days Alex and I have spent reflecting on our lives while hiking and vacationing in Carmel/Big Sur.

It’s made me think a lot about what I’m grateful for. Too many things to list, but suffice it to say at the top of my list are my husband, children, my health and to know my purpose in my life.

About 20 years ago while going through some very hard times I came across a quote by Og Mandingo that has become the foundation on which I have strived to live by. It says:

“I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth will I apply ALL my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy.”

The last twenty years I have climbed, strained my potential and worked hard to get to where I am. It hasn’t been easy. There have been a lot of rocks, falls, setbacks, mistakes and innumerable moments of feeling like a failure.

But I have not quit. Nor will I ever. Because growing, climbing, succeeding is not about luck or being smarter than others. It’s about endurance.

I’m grateful to have an enduring, fighting spirit that has brought me to where I am today. I’m excited to celebrate 40 years on this journey we call life.

And cheers to the next 40+ years. Can’t wait to see what awaits me in my future!

40!!!!! I remember when my dad turned 40 and I thought he was soooo old!!!! But here I am and I feel sooooo alive!!! (Also exhausted every day, well, cause kids 👶🏻)

This afternoon I had the great fortune of meeting a well respected plastic surgeon in Buenos Aires.

We discussed, compared and contrasted the aesthetic industry in the US vs Argentina. What techniques he uses, the products he likes etc.

More importantly we had a wonderful and in depth conversation about what we’re trying to achieve with aesthetic medicine. How it effects our clients. How social media has played a good and bad role in what we do. How we define “beauty”.

There is so much more to what we do in aesthetic medicine than just procedures. The psychology that drives aesthetics is fascinating.

Dr Bukret told me about a screening tool he uses in his office for body dysmorphia and how that has helped him immensely in his practice.

Do you think more aesthetic offices should screen for body dysmorphia before treatment?

What you think vs reality.

Upon first glance you may think-a beautiful, successful, happy woman celebrating her 10 year anniversary with her husband.

What you don’t see-years of not knowing who I was, being bullied in high school for a low voice, unsure of what I wanted to be, WHO I wanted to be. Confused. Heartbroken at 20 when I lost my father to su***de. Bewildered at 22 when my husband came out and left me. Those years were HARD! Words can’t describe how hard they were. Pain. Abandonment. Fear. Feelings of worthlessness. Followed by many hard years of reconstructing my life.

But that was the foundation I built myself upon. I learned to have hope. To be resilient. To be STRONG. To grow.

And after years-I took a chance to love again. Alex has been such a rock in my life as I have continued to understand myself. To search for who my higher self is and what my path on this earthly journey is.

Wherever you are in life right now, an up cycle or a down cycle, know that you are STRONG. You are RESILIENT. And most of all-know that you are LOVED.

I don’t understand a lot of things in this life, but this I do know. There’s a purpose to life. And even though the pain and suffering we seemingly too often pass through seems to much to bear, there is a reason. Hang tight friend, life is hard, but it worth it. ❤️
